C8: SWIMMING POOL TREATMENT SYSTEM

PART I: GENERAL

A. GENERAL REQUIEMENTS

Work of this section as shown or specified, shall be in accordance with the requirements of the whole set of contract
documents.

B. SCOPE OF WORK

This section covers provision and installation of potable water pump system inclusive water filter and purifier, pressure
tank system and pump electric panel and installation.
1. Section included:
a. Provision of system drawings based on system provided.
b. Provision of all equipment, tools, supporting material and equipment.
c. Installation of system by skillful workmanship.
d. Commissioning and testing of entire potable water pump system.
2. Section related: Section C1: Electrical, Section C3: Plumbing and Section C6: Potable Water Pump System

C. SUBMITTALS

1. A complete swimming pool and filtration plant equipment installation shall be supplied and installer for each
swimming pool in accordance with the drawings, the latest requirements of the Local Authority and the
requirements described hereunder.
2. The Contractor shall submit to the Project manager for approval working drawings showing the following:
a. Position of all holes, etc.
b. Filtration plant room layout including Spa Pool Equipment
c. Piping layout.
d. Size of grating, inspection covers, etc.
e. Electrical switchboard / control panels single line diagrams.
f. Any other items as and when required by the Project Manager.
3. The Contractor shall be responsible for engaging a swimming pool specialist to perform the system design.

E. WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM

1. General
a. The water treatment system shall be supplied and installed in accordance to the requirements of the relevant
authorities and shall comply strictly with the latest Code of Practice on Local Authorities.
b. All equipment, apparatus and component supplied shall be of types and makes acceptance to the relevant
authorities.
2. System
a. Pool equipment shall be provided by a pump returning water to the pool after filtration via the jet nozzles.
b. Water shall be drawn from the pool over flow collector channels back to the balancing tank and for sterilization
treatment.
c. Free available residue shall not be less than 5 PPM in the pool water. The pH value of water in the pool
should exceed 7.2 but not greater than 8.4.

3. Disinfectants Feeding Equipment ( Salt Chlorinates )
a. Salt chlorinates shall be used for pool sanitation and disinfecting media. Salt chlorinator uses basic Electro-
chemistry principle to generator sodium hypo chloride (liquid chlorine) is electrolysis.
b. When the pool water, dissolved with the common, refined salt (sodium chloride), passing through the
chlorinator, chloride gas shall be produced and dissolved instantly into the water and start to destroy bacteria,
viruses and algae whilst doing this it will revert back to salt.
4. Supply of Chemicals: The Contractor shall include the supply of the initial start up and twelve months supply of
refined salt used.

F. ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT

1. General
a. All equipment, apparatus and component supplied shall be of types and makes acceptance to the relevant
authorities and / or the Project Managers / Consulting Engineer.
b. The ancillary equipment supplied shall consist of the following :
 Pool cleaning set.
 Water testing (Chlorine Redial, pH Value, Acid Demand and Coral Alkalinity) set.
 Set Rate-of-Flow measuring indicator.
 Overflow collector channel gratings.
 “Surflo” channel cover.
 Filter Medium Applicator.
 Pool drain gratings of anti-vortex type.
 Volt pool lights including all wiring / control, etc.
 Approved stainless steel ladder / step for every 30 m of the pool perimeter.
2. Pool Cleaning Equipment
a. One- (1) sets of portable pool cleaning equipment each comprising the following items complete with flexible
suction hose and coupling fittings shall be provided.
b. One suction sweeper complete with electric motor driven pump mounted on an approved trolley and 10 m
length retractable power cord. Plastic vacuum cleaning head complete with 6-mm telescopic anodized
aluminum handle shall be provided.
c. 450-mm wide curved floor and wall brush shall be provided. A molded plastic leaf skimmer shall be provided.
3. Water Testing Kit
a. A set of water testing kit shall be provided to determine the residual chlorine and pH value of the water.
b. The equipment shall comprise of a calorimetric comparator with the necessary glass test tube, color discs and
the necessary indicator solution. The equipment shall be contained in robust portable case. The testing
chemicals shall be in sufficient quantity for at least 50 tests each.
4. Overflow Collect Channel Gratings: The overflow scum channel gratings shall be supplied and installed by the
Contractor. The grating material used shall be of shock-resistant plastic and the joining nod shall be stainless steel.
Color and pattern of the gratings shall be subjected to the approval of the Project Manager / Consulting Engineer.
10-m length spare gratings shall be provided.
5. Filter Medium Applicator: The contractor shall supply and install one (1) no. Filter medium applicator. The
applicator shall have a capacity to feed not less than 500 gm of diatornaceous earth per square meter of filter area
over 24 hours period.
6. Other Items necessary of obtaining Pool License.
7. The Contractor shall supply and install the following miscellaneous items :
a. Four numbers life buoy.
b. Two numbers resuscitation chart.
c. Two numbers swimming pool rules and regulation chart.
d. One number first aids box.
8. Any other miscellaneous items necessary for obtaining pool license, if the Local Authority requires it.

PART III: PRODUCT

A. CIRCULATION PUMP

1. Acceptable manufacturer’s product of “Hayward” or equal approved.

2. Type and capacity of pump is SP – 2605X7-51 with capacity 70 GPM
3. Pump has to have humidity control switches.

B. SAND FILTER

1. Acceptable manufacturer’s product of “Hayward” or equal approved.

2. The type and capacity of filter is s – 180T with capacity 35 GPM.
3. The sand filter must be included the multi port valves for filtering, backwash and vacuum

C. SALT CHLORINATOR

1. Acceptable manufacturer’s product of “ClearWater” or equal approved.

2. The type and capacity of salt chlorinator is 140 SERIES with capacity 15 gm/hr.
3. Salt chlorinator should complete with control, electric adapter and other supporting equipment.

D. SWIMMING POOL LIGHTING

1. Acceptable manufacturer’s product of “Astral”, “Hayward” or other equal approved.

2. The type of swimming pool light is low voltage 12 V, 300-watt minimum and flush.

E. MAIN DRAIN, SCHIMMER, VACUUM AND NOZLE

1. Acceptable manufacturer’s product is “Astral”, “Hayward” or equal approved.

2. The type of main drain is must have hydrostatic valve especially on high water table level conditions.
3. The type and capacity of schimmer is SP 1070.

PART III: EXECUTION

A. PLUMBING INSTALLATION

1. Plumbing installation for swimming pool must be accordance and complying to section C3: Plumbing.
2. On concrete penetration should have sleeve or anchorage to get tight joint with the concrete

B. CIRCULATION PUMP AND SAND FILTER INSTALLATION

1. Circulation pump and sand filter installation should complying and accordance to section C6: Potable Water Pump
System.
2. Specific requirement by manufacturer’s instruction has to be followed by contractor.

C. SALT CHLORINATOR INSTALLATION

Manufacturer’s instruction and guidance has to be followed by contractor.

D. COMMISSIONING AND TESTING.

It has to complying and accordance to entire commissioning test for plumbing and potable water pump system.
