The book The Great Gatsby tells the story of a self-made man Jay Gatsby who moves
to a newly wealthy neighborhood on Long Island. There he throws big parties with a
lot of people he doesn't know to attract and be close to an old love, Daisy Bachanan
who is now married to a man called Tom who belongs to an old rich family.

Thanks to the help of Nick Carraway -the narrator of the history -, his new neighbor
and Daisy's cousin, Gatsby enjoys Daisy's love again but when he asks her to leave
her husband for him, she chooses her husband.

In an unfortunate accident, Daisy runs over her husband's lover. Tom makes his
lover's husband believe that it was Gatsby, so he shoots and kills him and then
commits suicide.

Gatsby's funeral is attended only by his father despite Nick's efforts to have more
people.

It is a pessimistic vision of the American dream (self-made man) and of the

confrontation between the new and the old money.
