Summary
In multidisciplinary team for treating critical ill patient
there is requirement of highly specialize knowledge and
skill full person. Therefore, the pharmacist is the important
member of this team. clinical, economic and humanistic
outcomes of patient can be improved by male appreciated
contribution. The purpose of this article is to review the
literature affecting to pharmacist contribution within a
multidisciplinary intensivist-led intensive care unit (ICU)
team.
the following intervention is taken by pharmacist in
multidisciplinary team:
• correcting the order
• providing drug information
• suggesting alternative therapies
• identifying drug interaction
• therapeutic drug monitoring.
The outcomes of critical ill patient can be improved by
pharmacist involvement in optimize fluid management and
substantial reduction in rate of adverse drug reaction/
events, medication error and ventilator associated
pneumonia. furthermore, economic evaluation of clinical
pharmacy services in the ICU reliably expose the potential
for significant cost savings. We should continue to
document the important role of the ICU pharmacist so that
recognizing agencies recognise the value of critical care
pharmacist and more likely to command clinical service in
addition to the existing responsibility of providing drug
products.
