Reactions
assumption: something that you accept as true without question or proof.
criticism: an opinion given about something or someone, esp. a negative
opinion, or the activity of making such judgments.
demand: to ask for something forcefully, in a way that shows that you do
not expect to be refused.
excuse: a reason that you give to explain why you did something wrong.
prediction: a statement about what you think will happen in the future.
suggestion: an idea, possible plan, or action that is mentioned for other
people to consider.
suspicion: a belief or idea that something may be true.
warning: notice of a possible danger or problem, so that it can be
prevented or avoided.

Other
announcement: something that someone says officially, giving
information about something.
cafeteria: a restaurant (often in a factory, a college, or an office building)
where people collect food and drink from a serving area and take it to a
table themselves after paying for it.
check: a list that you are given in a restaurant showing how much your
meal costs; the bill.
doorbell: an electrical device with a button near the outside door of a
house or apartment that makes a noise when pressed, to let the people
inside know someone is there.
explanation: the details or reasons that someone gives to make
something clear or easy to understand.
fear: to be worried or frightened that something bad might happen or
might have happened.
fight: to argue with or use force against another person or a group of
people, or to oppose something.
flare: a burst of bright light or energy, usually lasting a short time.
haircut: the style in which someone's hair is cut, or an occasion of cutting
the hair.
hint: something that you say or do that shows what you think or want,
usually in a way that is not direct.
in-laws: a parent of your husband or wife or a member of his or her
family.
mess: dirty or untidy / or a situation that is full of problems.
nephew: a son of your sister or brother, or a son of the sister or brother of
your husband or wife.
pet peeve: something that especially annoys you.
pipe: a tube inside which liquid or gas flows from one place to another.
sci-fi: short for science fiction.
sewer: a large underground system of pipes that carries away sewage.
sister-in-law: the wife of your brother or sister, or the sister of your
husband or wife, or the wife of the brother or sister of your husband or
wife.
spaceship: a vehicle that can travel outside the Earth and into space,
especially one which is carrying people.
trumpet: a metal musical instrument that you play by blowing into it and
pressing buttons to make different notes.

One:

complicated: involving a lot of different parts, in a way that is difficult to


understand.
dated: old-fashioned.
giant: extremely large.
high-pitched: describes a noise that is high and sometimes also loud or
unpleasant.
inconsiderate: not caring about other people or their feelings; selfish.
overnight: for or during the night / or suddenly and unexpectedly.
tricky: (of a piece of work or a problem) difficult to deal with and needing
careful attention or skill.
understanding: An understanding person who has the ability to know
how other people are feeling, and can forgive them if they do something
wrong.

argue: to speak angrily to someone, telling that person that you disagree
with them.
baffle: If something baffles you, you cannot understand it at all.
blame: to say or think that someone or something did something wrong
or is responsible for something bad happening.
borrow: to get or receive something from someone with the intention of
giving it back after a period of time.
chew: crush food between your teeth before you swallow it.
clean up: to make a person or place clean and tidy.
cut: to break the surface of something, or to divide or make something
smaller, using a sharp tool, especially a knife.
fall (asleep): to start to sleep.
fire: to cause a weapon to shoot bullets, arrows, or missiles / or to direct
a series of questions or criticisms at someone.
flee: leave a place quickly because you are in danger or are afraid.
hear: to listen to someone or something with great attention or officially in
court.
interrupt: to stop a person from speaking for a short period by something
you say or do.
lend: to give something to someone for a short period of time, expecting it
to be given back.
make up (an excuse): give an explanation for not doing something.
pack: to put something into a bag, box, etc.
pretend: to behave as if something is true when you know that it is not,
especially in order to deceive people or as a game.
ring: to (cause to) make the sound of a bell / or to make a phone call to
someone
slip (one’s mind): to be forgotten.
squeal: make a loud, high sound.
take place: happen.
turn: to (cause to) change the direction in which you are facing or
moving.
wash (the dishes):
withdraw: to take money out of a bank account.
yawn: to open the mouth wide and take a lot of air into the lungs and
slowly send it out, usually when tired or bored.

besides: in addition to; also.


constantly: all the time or often.
previously: before the present time or the time referred to.

however: in whatever way.
