I)Living things:
+ Begin life.

Ex: Animals, plants, and human beings

II) 1. Vertebrates have a spine.


Ex: cats, dogs, snakes.
2. Invertebrates do not have a spine.
Ex: worms, jellyfish, snail, spider, insects, coral, crab, lobster, fly, bee
Coral looks like a plant, but it is an invertebrate animal.
**Snails do not have a spine, so they are invertebrates.

III) Vertebrates are divided into 5 groups:


+ Mammals: cats, dogs, horses
+ Birds: parrots, ducks, chickens
+ Reptiles: lizards, snakes
+ Amphibians: frogs
+ Fish: salmons, trout, carps

IV) Herbivores: animals eat plants.


Carnivores: animals eat meat.
Omnivores: animals eat plants and meat.

V) Animals which lay eggs are oviparous.


Ex: chickens, ducks, crocodiles, tortoises
Animals which do not lay eggs are viviparous.
Ex: cats, dogs, pigs, dolphins, bats.
VI) Mammals are viviparous.
The young are born from their mother’s body.
Fertilization take place inside the female.
They breathe through their lungs.

VII) Animals that live on land are terrestrial.


Animals that live in water are aquatic.

VIII) Birds can be: + Herbivores: eat plants or seeds


+ Carnivores: eat fish, insects
+ Omnivores: eat meat and plants

XI) Plants:
- They make food using oil, water, sunlight, and air.
- Plants have roots, stems, and leaves.
- They cannot move around.
- Most plants live on land, but some are aquatic.
- We classify plants into 2 groups:
+ Flowering plants reproduce from seeds.
Ex: Sunflowers, coffee plants
+ Plants without flowers do not use seeds.
Ex: Ferns and mosses.
