- Door latched = switch closed, continuity should read 0Ω.
- Door unlatched = switch open, continuity should read ∞Ω.

TESTING THE MICROWAVE OVEN COMPONENTS


COMPONENT TEST PROCEDURE RESULTS
HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.
2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1 and touch the leads to the terminals.
Primary Normal = Less than 1 Ω.
Secondary Normal = Less than 1 Ω.
Filament to Ground Normal = 0 Ω.
3. Measure resistance (Rx100). Primary Normal = Infinity.
Filament Normal = Infinity.
MAGNETRON 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.
2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1 and touch the leads to the F and FA
terminals. Normal = approximately 0 Ω.
3. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1k and measure filament to chassis. Normal = Infinity.

CAPACITOR 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.


2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1k and touch the leads to the terminals. Normal = Momentarily
indicates several ohms, and
gradually returns to infinity.
3. Terminal to chassis. Normal = Infinity.
RECTIFIER 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.
2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1k and measure forward resistance. Normal = Continuity.
Abnormal= Infinity.
3. Measure the reverse resistance. Normal = Infinity.
NOTE: Some inexpensive meters may show infinity in both directions. Abnormal = Continuity.
FAN MOTOR 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.
2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1 and touch the leads to the terminals. Normal = approximately 25 Ω.
Abnormal = Infinity.

TURNTABLE 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.


MOTOR 2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1 and touch the leads to the terminals. Normal = approximately 25 Ω.
Abnormal = Infinity.

THERMAL FUSES 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.


2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1 and touch the leads to the terminals. Normal = Continuity.
Open Close Abnormal = Infinity.
Cavity Thermal Fuse 165° C (329° F)
Cavity Grill and Magnetron Grill Thermal Fuse 160° C (320° F) 140° C (284° F)
Thermal Convection Fan Thermal Magnetron Thermal Fuse 145° C (293° F) 125° C (257° F)
Fuse Thermal Fuses Fuse
Convection Fan Thermal Fuse 145° C (293° F) 105° C (221° F)
GRILL ELEMENT 1. Remove the leads from the terminals.
Bulbs 2. Set the ohmmeter to Rx1 and touch the leads to the terminals. Normal = 14 Ω for both bulbs.
Normal = 7 Ω for one bulb.
Abnormal = Infinity.

AIR VENT 1. Remove the lead from one terminal.


SOLENOID 2. Set the ohmmeter to the Rx1k and touch the leads to the terminals. Normal = approximately 1650 Ω.
Abnormal = Infinity.
