Finishing & Blocking
Fill a large bowl or basin with tepid
water and some wool wash or mild
shampoo. Soak the shawl for 5-10 min-
utes, rinse without agitating, squeeze
out excess water, and roll the shawl in
a towel to soak up excess water. Lay
the shawl out on a blocking board and
gently stretch the base of the shawl to
a straight line. Stretch the short sides
to straighten and open up the lace
pattern. If you have blocking wires, use
them to block the edges, then pin the
Ch-5 picots and Ch-3 spaces of Border
Row 2 to block the points of the border.
Weave in ends.
Asteroflora Shawlette
Work same as Shawl until piece mea-
sures about 48" (122 cm), measured
across base (longest edge), end with a
Pattern Row 3 as the last row of the body.
Do not fasten off. Work border same
as for Shawl. Block Shawlette, same as
Shawl, to measure about 50" (126 cm)
across base and 25" (63.5 cm) high.
