IBM introduced advanced-technology motherboard that called “full AT”. This board
has become the standard motherboard for all PCs and tower cases, with a basic design
that is still recognizable today.
2.3 Baby AT motherboard (1985)
A replacement for the full AT motherboard called Baby AT. It was introduced by
IBM in 1985. It was in use unil the early 1990s with Pentium, 386,486 and 286
computers.

In 1995, the ATX (Advanced Technology Extended) motherboard and power supply
specification was created and published by Intel. In contrast to earlier requirements,
the ATX motherboard allowed bigger expansion cards to be connected into every
motherboard socket by rotating the location of the CPU and DRAM. In March 1997,
collaboration between IBM and DEC(Digital Equipment Corporation) created the
NLX (New Low Profile Extended) form factor. Intel and FIC supplied the first
motherboards with support for AGP (accelerated graphics port) in august and
Nvember of 1997 respectively. Intel released the microATX standard motherboard in
December 1997. Lastly, Intel introduced the WTX and FlexATX motherboard in
September 1998 and 1999.

Nano-ITX motherboard
The third generation I/O PCI Express was first launched in 2002 and by the mid-
2000s, motherboards contains at least one PCle slot for graphics.Nano-ITX form
factor for motherboards introduced later in March 2003. In 2004 NVIDIA intoduce
SLI (Scalable Link Interface) technology that are allowing many abilities to link two
video cards together on a motherboard. Then, Intel announced the motherboard
specifications and form size for BTX (balanced technology extended) platform . In
the same year, the MicroBTX and PicoBTX form factors were additionally
commercially. The Mobile-ITX form factor for motherboards was then introduced in
March 2004. in 2005, the PICMG , a collaboration involving more than 150
companies introduced the COM Express form factor.2005 was the year that witnessed
the debut of the XTX mmotherboard typical and form factor.

In 2006, computer gamers had the ability to use more than one video cards with a
microATX motherboard. Later in 2006, Supermicro launched the motherboard form
factor known as SWTX. In April 2007, the Pico-ITX motherboard form factor was
released. Before that, in January 2007 noticed that AMD designed the DTX form
factor. AMD also developed and released the Mini-DTX form factor. Lastly, HPTX
motherboard form factor was released in 2010 by HPTX.
