WHAT IS PUBLICITY IN THEATRE MANAGEMENT?

Theatrical publicity management involves the coordination of all publicity

techniques meant to attract the audience to the theatre. These publicity techniques include

advertising, sales promotions, publicity, public relations, words of mouths, novelty

publicity etc. Some of the publicity methods, I would use as a publicity director in

attracting audience to the theatre includes;

 Social media campaign: Involves creating engaging content and sharing behind the

scenes glimpse and running contests or giveaway to generate excitement. And also using

popular Hash tags and collaborating with influencer to have a wider audience.

 Collaboration with local influencers: By collaborating with local influences they can

help spread the word about upcoming shows, their experiences and attract their followers

to attend.
 Utilizing online reviews platform and testimonials: This method is an effective way to

build trust and attract more audience to the theatre. Positive reviews and testimonials

from satisfied patron can create a positive buzz and encourage others to attend. Platforms

like yelp, Google reviews are great for showcasing feedbacks and generating interest.

 Creating an Engaging website: You can include information about upcoming events,

sales of tickets and even interactive features like quiz or behind the scenes videos. Make

sure it is visually appealing, easy to navigate and mobile friendly.

 Cross promotions with other local businesses: Is a strategy where the theatre partners

with local businesses to mutually promote each others offerings. For example, the theatre

could offer discounts to a nearby restaurant, in return, the restaurant can promote the

theatre to its customers. It’s a “win” “win” collaboration approach for both businesses.

 Hosting special events or workshops: Is a way to engage with your audience and

provide them with unique experience. Consider organizing a question and answer session

with actors, theatre workshops or even themed parties related to your show.

 Street performance or flash mobs: This method is a fantastic way to create buzz and

surprise people with spontaneous entertainment. Imagine dancers, musicians, actors

showcasing their talents in unexpected places. It is a way to capture attention and

generate interest in the theatre.

 Email newsletter to subscribers: This is a great way to keep the audience informed

about upcoming shows, special events, and exclusive offers. Make sure to provide

valuable content such as behind the scenes insight and interview with cast members to

keep them existing and connected to the theatre.

Other Methods include;

 Words of mouths marketing from satisfied audience members
