Removing and installing upper A-pillar trim


Special tools and workshop equipment required

 Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-

WARNING
Observe the safety precautions for working on airbags → Chapter and head airbags → Chapter.

1 - Upper A-pillar
trim

 Removing:
– Remove sun
visor
→ Chapter.
– Fold down
roof grab
handle -5-.
– Fold down
flap over
bolts at roof
grab handle -
4-.
– Screw out
bolts -2-.
– Unclip airbag
label -9- at
rear (at B-
pillar) and
pull off.
– Screw bolt
out of airbag
label.
– Pull out
upper A-
pillar trim -1-
beneath
upper B-
pillar trim
and unfasten

the three
clips -3-.
– Pull out upper A-pillar trim -1- to rear.

 Installing:

Caution
Always keep to A-pillar trim installation sequence.

– Guide in upper A-pillar trim -1- at front between rubber door seal and side panel.
– Guide trim retainer -10- into corresponding clip.
– Secure upper A-pillar trim -1- with the three clips -3-.
– Slide trim beneath upper B-pillar trim.
– Make sure clip and metal hook of head airbag adapter are firmly engaged.

Caution
Make sure trim is a firm fit.

2 - Bolts (2x)
 Tightening torque 4 Nm
 Self-locking
 Always replace after removing
 Tapped holes for bolts are always to be cleaned (e.g. with a thread cutter).

3 - Clips (3x)

4 - Roof grab handle flap

5 - Roof grab handle

6 - Mounts

7 - Groove

8 - Seal
 Make sure seal is properly positioned after fitting trim.

9 - Airbag label

10 - Retainer
