CHAPTER I

MARKET FEASIBILITY

INTRODUCTION

Market feasibility is considered as one of the most essential parts in a

feasibility study. It is essential to the study’s success. This chapter

determines the market study of the proposed project. Market study is

defined as the objective and formal process of systematically obtaining,

analyzing, and interpreting data for actionable decision making in

marketing. The main purpose of this market study is to determine the need

for putting up the proposed Community College in Bacsil, Bacnotan, La

Union.

MARKET DESCRIPTION

Community colleges are educational institutions that provide a wide

range of academic and vocational programs to the local community. They

typically offer two-year associate degree programs, as well as certificate

programs that can be completed in a shorter duration. Community

colleges often cater to a diverse student population, including recent high

school graduates, adults looking to enhance their skills, and individuals

seeking a career change.

One of the primary advantages of community colleges is their

affordability. Compared to four-year universities, community colleges


typically have lower tuition fees. This makes education more accessible to

individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds who may not have

the means to attend a traditional university. Furthermore, community

colleges often offer financial aid options to further assist students in

financing their education.

Another important feature of community colleges is their flexibility.

These institutions often have multiple campus locations, which increases

accessibility for students who may not be able to relocate or commute long

distances. Additionally, community colleges usually have a wide range of

class schedules, including evening and weekend options, to accommodate

students who work or have other commitments. This flexibility allows

individuals to pursue education while also managing their personal and

professional responsibilities.

Community colleges play a vital role in providing affordable and flexible

educational opportunities to local communities. They serve a diverse

student body, offering various academic and vocational programs. By

making education accessible and accommodating, community colleges

contribute to the development and advancement of individuals seeking

personal and professional growth.


OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The objectives of this project are the following:

1. To provide accessible and affordable education to a wide range of

students, including recent high school graduates, adult learners, and

individuals seeking vocational training.

2. To provide mix academic and vocational offerings, community colleges

cater to a wide spectrum of student interests and career goals.

3. To provide comprehensive support services to help students succeed

academically and personally.

4. To provide educational opportunities to individuals from diverse racial,

ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

5. To prepare students for the workforce by offering career-oriented

programs that align with local industry needs.

GEOGRAPICAL CHARACTERISTICS

La Union is a province located in the Ilocos Region of the Philippines.

The province's capital is the city of San Fernando, which is located in the

central part of the province. The area is approximately 1,497.70 square

kilometers, making it a relatively small province in terms of land area.

Bacnotan, a municipality in the province of La Union, Philippines, is

characterized by a diverse range of geographical features that contribute

to its allure. Situated along the western coast of the province.


The proposed Community College serves as a vital resource for its

community, providing accessible and affordable education, training, and

resources to a diverse student population.

DEMAND ANALYSIS

The purpose of the project will study the various factors influencing

student enrollment and identifying the educational and training needs of

the local community. Firstly, population demographics play a significant

role in understanding the potential demand for community college

programs. By examining the age distribution, educational levels, and

employment trends within the community, the college can identify specific

segments of the population that may benefit from its educational offerings.

This analysis informs the development of targeted programs to cater to the

diverse needs of the community.

Community College is a strong foundation for individuals seeking to

further their education, enhance their skills, or pursue specific career

paths. Their accessibility, affordability, flexibility, and diverse program

offerings make them an essential part of the educational landscape,

serving students and communities in a variety of impact ways.

The researchers utilized the information produced in the demand

analysis to supplied to them with approved sources.

The data presented in Table 1 the total number of students in

Bacnotan. The data presented is from the School Year 2017-2018 to the

School Year 2023-2024.

The data presented in Table 2 show the number of students

undergraduate in different school of Bacnotan, La Union with a total of

1,538 students.

Table 3 shows the municipality’s total school-going population. The

total population of school-going in Bacnotan is 14,290 ages ranging from

3-21 years old as per DepEd K-12 classification.

Table 4 shows the population expected growth for the school-going

population from base year to year 2026.

SUPPLY ANALYSIS

In this feasibility study, the supply analysis is an examination of

current supply conditions evaluation of the current availability of an item

or service, which will enable to determine whether the quantity given meets

the demand for a good or service.

The land where the proposed Community College is to be constructed

has an existing building, wherein the said building will be demolished with

an approximately total land area of 1429 sq. meters. The proposed project

will be merged and become a 4-storey Community College.


DEMAND SUPPLY ANALYSIS

The increasing number of school-going population needs to be taken

into consideration, by providing new buildings and facilities catering the

needs of students. The proposed construction of Community College in

Bacsil, Bacnotan, La Union will be the solution to this issue. This

community college will provide accessible and affordable education to a

broad spectrum of individuals, including recent high school graduates,

working adults, and those seeking to retrain for new careers.

Furthermore, this community college will contribute to the enrichment

and well-being of the community by offering a variety of adult education,

continuing education, and enrichment programs. These programs may

include classes on topics on industrial engineering and personal finance,

as well as career development workshops and seminars. By providing

opportunities for lifelong learning and personal growth, this community

college can foster a culture of curiosity and self-improvement within the

community, enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

Lastly, the community college will offer resources and support services

that benefit the broader community. These may include access to libraries,

fitness facilities, career counseling, and support for small business

development. By providing these resources, the community college will

become an integral part of the community, supporting the needs and

aspirations of local residents in various ways beyond traditional education.
