:Analyzing the process of making Burgers at KFC and SUBWAY

KFC is a typical Fast food chain which also specializes in making burgers whereas Subway
holds a special name in the preparation of long bun burgers which they typically call as
Subway sandwiches. The process of both company's differ to a great extent as KFC gives the
option of ordering the already advertised Burger in their menu while Subway has a greater
deal of variety to offer. They allow the customer to totally choose as per their like from the
different variety of buns, sauces and meat. At KFC, it is seen that Burger making is not a
typical part of their menu as they claim to be specialized in fried chicken, but at the same
.time their burger stand out as a popular ordered item
:The process of KFC making burgers can be given as
Ingredients Preparation:
 Chicken portions, often marinated with KFC's unique combination of herbs and
spices.
 A breading mixture is prepared for coating.
Coating and Breading:
 The chicken is covered with the distinctive blend of herbs and spices.
 Subsequently, it undergoes a breading process to achieve the recognizable crispiness
associated with KFC.
Frying:
 The breaded chicken pieces are immersed in hot oil and fried until they attain a
golden-brown hue, ensuring thorough cooking.
Assembly and Packaging:
 The fried chicken pieces are arranged into meals or buckets, tailored to customer
preferences.
 The finalized orders are then carefully packaged for either dine-in, takeout, or
delivery.
Process of making Burger Sandwiches at Subway:
Making Sandwiches at Subway:
1. Bread Selection:
- Customers choose the type of bread for their sandwiches from a variety of options.
2. Protein Selection:
- Customers choose their protein, which can include various meats (ham, turkey, chicken,
etc.) or vegetarian options.
3. Vegetable and Topping Selection:
- Customers select from a variety of fresh vegetables, condiments, and toppings to
customize their sandwich.
4. Assembly Line Process:
- The sandwich artist assembles the sub based on the customer's preferences, adding each
ingredient as the sandwich moves down the assembly line.
5. Toasting (Optional):
- Customers can choose to have their sandwich toasted after the assembly.
6. Packaging:
- The finished sub is wrapped or placed in a suitable container for serving or takeout.

Key Differences:

-Cooking Method:
KFC primarily uses deep-frying for their chicken, while Subway's process involves
assembling and, optionally, toasting sandwiches.
- Customization:
- Subway's process heavily emphasizes customer customization, allowing them to choose
specific bread, proteins, vegetables, and toppings. KFC's menu items are more standardized.
- Product Type:
- KFC specializes in fried chicken, and while Subway offers a variety of sandwiches, they
are not traditionally classified as "burgers."
In summary, KFC's process is centered on preparing and frying chicken, while Subway's
process involves the assembly of sandwiches with a wide range of customizable options.
Neither of these processes aligns directly with the traditional concept of making burgers.
The processes differ in time efficiency as, KFC uses batch shop and usually their burgers can
be seen prepared in batches, as the meat gets marinated in large quantity. Whereas, subway
takes on spot orders and then prepares the sandwich from the start from the pre prepared
items in their storage. So, KFC takes advantage in providing timely orders, but Subway
remains the burger taste winner as it has a huge variety to offer. In terms of variety,
customers prefer to choose subway than KFC. Also, due to their customizable option,
customers with health concerns are allowed to make burgers with lower calories and again
.KFC lacks this quality as they offer only displayed fried burgers on their menu
:Suitability of Location
Subway is located near Shaukat Khanam Hospital in Johar Town whereas KFC is located at a
place with large number of competing restaurants. Subway gets a win in location suitability
as there are many nearby residents who prefer to grab subway sandwich burgers for their
daily meals. As for KFC, since it is an already established brand name but surrounded with
competitors, it has to struggle to stand out by doing effective advertisement campaigns etc.
Also, Subway has only one specialized item so it is easier for them to prepare and deliver on
.time to customers
?Prepared to orders, prepared to stock or a hybrid process
The preparation process depends on the specific item and the company's operational practices
at that time. In general, fast-food restaurants often use a combination of "prepared to order"
and "prepared to stock" processes. Core menu items may be prepared in batches or stocked to
facilitate faster service, while some items are prepared or assembled upon customer order to
ensure freshness. And this is the approach which KFC uses. They have prepared stock of
marinated and sometimes fried meat, which they use to assemble the burger as the order
.arrives
Subway generally follows a "prepared to order" process for its sandwiches. Customers can
customize their sandwiches by choosing the type of bread, protein, vegetables, condiments,
.and toppings. The sandwich is assembled on-site based on the customer's specifications
