Salaries and other Benefits
Basic Salary : Kshs. 47,780 p.m. – Kshs. 63,900 p.m.
House Allowance : Kshs. 13,000 p.m.
Commuter Allowance: Kshs. 6,000 p.m.
Leave Allowance (once a year) Kshs. 8,000
Leave Entitlement : 30 days per financial year excluding weekends and

a) Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
(i) Served in the grade of Senior Superintendent (Electrical) or comparable and
relevant position in the Public Service for a least three (3) years;
(ii) A Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technician Certificate Part III or
equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
(iii) Attended a Supervisory Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
from a recognized Institution; and
(iv) Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
The officer may be deployed in a design office where work will involve preparation of
design drawings and preparing estimates for electrical installations for supply of power
to public buildings, hospitals and other institutions in consultation with Electrical
Engineer.

Term of Service : Permanent and Pensionable
Salaries and other Benefits
Basic Salary : Kshs. 41,770 p.m. – Kshs. 57,900 p.m.
House Allowance : Kshs. 13,000 p.m.
Commuter Allowance: Kshs. 6,000 p.m.

(i) Served in the grade of Superintendent (Mechanical (BS)) or comparable and
relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) years;
(ii) Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technician Certificate
Part III or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; and
(iii) Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
b) Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties will involve:
(i) The supervision of inspections;
(ii) Repair and maintenance of mechanical installations including power
generating engines, boilers, fire-fighting equipment, refrigeration and air-
conditioning, catering and laundry equipment in public buildings,
hospitals, complex conference centres and institutions; and
(iii) The officer will also supervise the officers working under him or her
In addition the officer may be deployed in a design office where work involves:
(i) Preparation of design drawings and specifications;
(ii) Making estimates for mechanical installations in public buildings, hospitals and
other institutions under direction of Mechanical Engineer (BS).
In addition, duties will involve supervision of artisans carrying out maintenance work at a
depot.
