REFELCTION 1

Working on the Visit – Founder’s Day 2023 – CAS Reflection

I gained a lot of knowledge about the world of theatre production from my experience
working on the sets and props crew for a show. My love of the arts and crafts was mixed with
the thrill of collaborative storytelling as I worked on creating complicated props and making
creative judgments.

I really loved getting to participate in different arts and crafts projects when I was on the sets
and props team. There was always something new to discover and learn, whether one was
building, painting, or sculpting. The practical nature of the task allowed me to explore my
creative side and use it to make props that enriched and authenticated the play's universe. It
was quite fulfilling to see a prop I helped make become a crucial component of the
performance, increasing the visual appeal and storytelling in general.

The ability to choose the color schemes, accents, and decorations for the props was what
really stimulated my imagination. This part of the job was like a white canvas on which I
could paint my unique aesthetic and artistic tastes. It was both difficult and rewarding to work
with the other members of the team to make sure that the props matched the director's
concept. These were the times when I genuinely felt like an artist, able to influence the play's
visual style.

Difficulties faced:

I did, however, have several difficulties while working with the sets and props team.
Effectively communicating information about the logistics of props was a key challenge.
Clear and specific directions were needed to convey information regarding how a prop should
be handled, stored, or moved to various sequences. To make sure that the props were intact
and useful throughout the production, I had to learn the value of clear communication.
Through this task, I learned the need of strong teamwork and collaboration as well as the
necessity of meticulous labelling and documentation.

In retrospect:

I gained a lot of knowledge while working with the team, but one of the most important
things I learnt was how to substitute supplies in order to save money. Finding innovative
ways to operate within the budgetary restrictions was crucial because theatre shows
frequently have limited resources. I discovered how to spot cheaper materials that might
mimic the appearance and texture of more expensive ones without sacrificing quality. This
ability helped me solve problems more creatively, which I have found to be helpful in many
facets of my life. It also helped me save resources.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my time spent working on a play's sets and props crew was both enlightening
and enjoyable. It helped me to explore my love of crafts and the arts while pushing me to be
more imaginative in my decision-making, communicate better, and develop my

resourcefulness. I am appreciative of the useful skills and unforgettable experiences I

acquired during my time on the team because the field of theatre production is a vibrant and
dynamic one.
