INTRODUCTION
The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
took place from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai,
United Arab Emirates. The event, held under the theme ‘Unite,
Act, Deliver,’ marked a crucial moment for the global
community to assess progress on the Paris Agreement,
culminating in the first-ever Global Stocktake. This report
focuses on the contributions and engagements of the Global
Environmental and Climate Conservation Initiative (GECCI), the
African Union's Great Green Wall Youth Advisory Board, and
the Youth Climate Council Nigeria during COP28.

climate education, sustainable agriculture, Clean Energy and
empowering youth as the driving force for positive change.

global scale. Despite acknowledging the urgency of action
across all pillars of the Paris Agreement, negotiations faced
challenges, leaving critical issues such as climate
adaptation, loss and damage, and climate finance for the

AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE AND

CLIMATE FINANCE
For Africa, COP28 presented a critical platform to address issues crucial to
the continent's sustainable development. With rich natural resources, Africa
can pursue green growth and climate objectives, relying on climate finance
to support a just energy transition and enhance resilience to climate change
impacts.
