Marks Characteristics
Outstanding work which demonstrates that the student has a good
Above 80 %
grasp of the content appropriate to the topic
The student demonstrates above average understanding and clear
70-79 %
grasp of the topic.
The student is able to cover basic subject matter but may display some
50-69 %
weakness, limitations in understanding and interpretation.
The student’s performance is only just acceptable revealing some
40-49 %
inadequacies, weak organizing ability and limited communication skills.
The student’s performance is inadequate, has poor organizing ability
<39 %
and weak communication skills.
1. INSTRUCTIONS:
a) Students are required to do this assignment in:
- Pair (Group 1 and Group 2)
- A group of THREE (3) members (Group 3)
b) Students are required to choose ONE (1) topic based on the list provided and debate
about it during the class.
c) The pairs will be divided into TWO (2):
- Government
- Opponent
The groups will be divided into TWO (2):
- Affirmative
- Negative
d) Each pair / group is ALLOWED to use cue cards containing points to be debated during
the debate session.
e) Each pair / group MUST wear a formal attire during the debate.
f) Each debate speaker will be given FIVE (5) minutes to present their argument. Each
debate session will be given minimum THIRTY (30) minutes, maximum FOURTY (40)
minutes.
g) The debate session will start according to this sequence (Group 1 and Group 2):
i. 1st speaker of the Government
- Introduction to the topic.
- TWO (2) points for a further explanation on the topic.
- Provide clear stance towards the topic.
ii. 1st speaker of the Opponent
- Rebutting the introduction from the 1st speaker of the Government.
- Provide TWO (2) points of their point of view towards the topic.
- Stating a clear stance towards the topic.
iii. 2nd speaker of the Government
- Provide TWO (2) points supporting the Government 1st speaker’s explanation
on the topic.
- Provide TWO (2) rebuttal the points for the 1st speaker of the Opponent.
iv. 2nd speaker of the Opponent
- Provide TWO (2) points supporting the Opponent 1st speaker’s explanation on
the topic.
- Provide TWO (2) rebuttal points for the 2nd speaker of the Government.
v. Reply Speaker (Could be the 1st or 2nd speaker from each pair)
- Each team has to provide ONE (1) conclusion to wrap their argument.

8th January 2024 (Group 3)
11th January 2024 (Group 1 and Group 2)
