Instructions: This section consists of 4 essay questions and students need to answer any 2
essay questions. Read each question and write in detail your answer.

Question 1: Define the study of sociology and Discuss in detail three sociology theories.

Question2: Explain culture and discuss two main categories of culture. Subcultures and
countercultures exist in all societies list two examples each and discuss briefly from Caribbean
perspective.

Question 3: Education is one of the important social institutions. Explain the main features of
the education system and critically discuss how education system reinforces social inequalities
in society.
Question 4: Define Socialization and its agents of Socialization. Give an account of any TWO
reasons why the process of socialization is vital to human survival.

Instructions: This section consists of Short -answer questions and students need to answer any
4 short answer questions. Read each question and write in detail a minimum of a half a page for
each response..

5 Marks X 4 Questions

1. Discuss briefly Sociology as social science and briefly explain the relationship it has with any
ONE social science.

2. Define social stratification and list and explain four types of stratification systems.

3. Define and discuss briefly Sociological Imagination.

4. Explain what the scientific method is and list the steps involved in it, giving a brief
explanation of each step.

5. Define social group and briefly discuss primary and second groups.

6. Family is a social institution; briefly discuss its definition, structure and functions.
