I. THE IMPERSONAL PASSIVE ( CÂU BỊ ĐỘNG KHÔNG NGÔI)

1. Cách dùng
- Câu bị động không ngôi được dùng để diễn dạt ý kiến của người khác.
- Câu bị động không ngôi thường chứa những động từ tường thuật như say, think,
believe, know, hope, expect, report, understand, claim…
2. Cấu trúc
 Câu chủ động
People (They) + say (said)/think (thought)…+ that S2+V2+O2
 Câu bị động: có 2 cách chuyển
o Cách 1: Dùng chủ ngữ giả “It”
It + is/was + said/thought…+that+ S2 +V2 + O2
o Cách 2: Dùng chủ ngữ 2 (S2) làm chủ ngữ
S2 + am/is/are + said/thought … + to V + O2
S2 + was/were + said/thought … + to have PII + O2
Đối với cách chuyển thứ 2, chúng ta phải xét đến hành động xảy ra trong
mệnh đề that (that-clause) và mệnh đề chính (main-clause)
 Nếu hành động ở that-clause xảy ra đồng thời hoặc
sau với main-clause ta dùng to V.
Ex: They told me that you were the best architect in
this city.

 You were told to be the best architect in this city.

 Nếu hành động ở that-clause xảy ra trước so với

main-clause ta dùng to have + PII
Ex: People say that the company lost a lot of money last year.
 The company is said to have lost a lot of money last year.

Ex 1: People think that he is a great teacher.

 It is thought that he is a great teacher.
 He is thought to be a great teacher.
Ex 2: They say that she works in a factory.
 It is said that she works in a factory.
  She is said that to work in a factory.
Ex 3:They reported that two people had been injured.
 It was reported that two people had been injured.
 Two people were reported to have been injured.
II. SUGGEST + V-ING/ CLAUSE WITH SHOULD: Để nghị nên làm gì
1. Cấu trúc
S + suggest + V-ing
S + suggest + (that) + S + (should) + Vinfinite
2. Cách dùng: Ta sử dụng cấu trúc với suggest khi đưa ra một đề xuất, ý kiến,
gợi ý ai đó làm gì.
- Cấu trúc suggest + V-ing được dùng để nói chung chung, không ám chỉ một
người cụ thể.
- Cấu trúc suggest that + S + V khi muốn khuyên một người hoặc một nhóm
người cụ thể.
Ex: We are going to have a trip.
 I suggest going by car/I suggest that we should go by car.

* Lưu ý: Sau suggest that mà không dùng should thì động từ theo vẫn chia ở dạng
Vinfinite
Ex: The doctor suggests that she go on a diet.
