A General Cargo ship of 11 000 tonnes displacement has 1 000 tonnes of timber on deck as deck
cargo. She is upright. For calculation, the timber may assume to be divided into Port and
Starboard stows of 500 tonnes each. She steams from Manila, Philipines to Kobe, Japan and
suffers a continuous Force 6 adverse weather from East. This cause her weather stow (Starboard
side timber) to absorb 15% of water (by weight). The centre of gravity of the timber (absorbed
water) may be assumed 3.0 metres from the centreline, Kg 8.0 metres. If her original KG 4.80
metres, KM 5.20 metres and free surface effect 0.05 metre, calculate the resulting list.

1. Your vessel is floating in seawater with drafts at the perpendiculars of 4.15 m forward, 6.55 m
aft. It is essential that the aft draft be reduced to 6.12 m for berthing in water RD 1.012. i.
Determine the amount of water ballast to be discharged from a tank whose centre of gravity is
65 m aft of amidships. ii. The new draft forward at berth. Given the following constants LBP 160
m, center of flotation 2.40 m aft of amidships, TPC 18, MCTC 140 tm, FWA 160 mms

(tonne) 43.1 43.6 44.1 44.6 45.0 45.4 45.8 46.2 The displacement at a draft of 7 m is 15 000
tonnes. Calculate the displacement at a draft of 14 m and the position of the centre of buoyancy
at this draft if the Kb is 4.60 m at 7 m draft.
