MATHEMATICS FESTIVAL 2023

General Qualification/s for Participants:


1. You must be bonafide students of Bachelor of Secondary Education- Major in
Mathematics or at least a member of the DMMMSU-MLUC Mathematics club.
2. Make sure to register on time before the deadline of registration or you are enlisted as
the representative for the said activities and games.

I. TAGISAN NG TALINO (November 30,2023)

Guidelines and Mechanics:


1. Each year level can send at least three (3) contestants from their respective section.
2. Chalk, board and eraser will be provided during the activity.
3. Official entry numbers will be assigned to each grade level.
4. Scope and coverage; the quiz shall cover all general questions in Mathematics.
The Quiz Bee comprises of four (4) rounds;
● Level 1 (First-Year Math topics) is composed of 5 questions with 1 corresponding point
each.
● Level 2 (Second-Year Math topics) is composed of 5 questions with 2 corresponding
points each.
● Level 3 (Third-Year Math topics) is composed of 5 questions with 3 corresponding points
each.
● Level 4 is composed of 5 questions with 5 corresponding points each.
An allotted time of 2 minutes will be given for the computational round.
5. Multiple types of questions will be given for levels 1-3 while solving problem /
computational/ identification for level 4.
6. In the multiple types of questions, participants will have to select only letters of the
correct answers. Questions will be projected on the screen for 10 seconds. After another
5 seconds, participants shall raise their answer.
7. No one can change their answers after 5 seconds and after it was raised.
8. All answers must be spelled correctly to be considered correct. If the answer is a proper
noun, capitalization of the first letter of the word is also a basis in declaring the answer
correct.
9. Use of calculators shall NOT be allowed.
10. The participants with the highest number of points gathered in three (3) rounds as
validated by the tabulator will be declared as the winner.
11. In case of a tie, a clincher round shall be played. It shall be a knock out system between
or among the contestants with equal scores until a winner emerges. The first who can
answer correctly will be the winner.
12. Any violation of the aforementioned rules shall cause the disqualification of the
contestant concerned.
II. LOGO MAKING( Nov. 28-29)

Guidelines and Mechanics:


1. Each section should have at least ONE (1) entry.
2. A person can only submit ONE (1) entry.
3. The logo must effectively illustrate, interpret, and emphasize the theme: Mathematics for
Everyone.
4. Entry must be the participant’s original work.
5. The following are the specifications:
The entry must be digitally made.
a. Rationale of the logo and its details shall be provided by the participant. (Format:
not exceeding 500 words, Trebuchet 12, justified, double spacing)
b. Symbols that will be used should have their own meanings.
c. The logo will be in a PNG file.
d. Entries will be submitted in a .zip folder containing the logo and the rationale to
be sent at the club’s gmail: mathclub.dmmmsumluc@gmail.com.
6. Determination of the winner will be based on the criteria for judging.
● Relevance to the Theme 40%
● Creativity 25%
● Originality 25%
● Visual Impact 10%

7. The decisions of the judges shall be deemed final and irrevocable.

III. POSTER SLOGAN MAKING

GUIDELINES:
1. The poster slogan must illustrate, interpret and emphasize the theme.
2. The participants can use Filipino or English in creating their slogan.
3. The participants are only allowed to use 8 pieces of crayola in making their masterpiece.
4. The participants must provide their own materials except for the 1/8 illustration board.
5. The participants will be given 1 hour and 15 minutes to finish their work.
6. The poster slogan must be done in free hand.
7. The participants shall declare that the entry is their original artwork deisgn.
8. The decision of judges is final and irrevocable.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:


● Relevance to the theme 35%
● Originality and creativity 35%
● Slogan 20%
● Over all impact 10%

IV. RUBIK’S CUBE

Guidelines:
1. The conduct of the contest is per section. There will be three winners in each section.
2. All winners will compete for the championship on the day of the culminating activity as
representatives of their own section.
3. Every student needs to provide their own 3x3 Rubik’s cube. No alterations are permitted.
Mechanics for Each Section:
1. The participants will solve the Rubik’s cube one-by-one.
2. The facilitator will scramble the Rubik’s cube after each participant. They will have the
same scrambled pattern.
3. The participants will be given 20 seconds to inspect and analyze the scrambled Rubik’s
cube once it is revealed.
4. After inspecting, the participant must set the timer before beginning the timer.
Subsequently, in order to halt the timer, the players must stop the timer and raise their
hands.
5. The facilitator will keep track of the time and the top 3 students with the least amount of
recorded time will be the winners.
6. In the event of a tie, competitors must solve another pattern with 15 seconds of
inspection. The winner of the tiebreaker will be the player who solves the Rubik’s cube in
the smallest amount of time.
7. The mechanics for the championship, participants will only be given 10 seconds to
inspect and analyze the scrambled Rubik's cube and also 10 seconds of inspection in
case of a tiebreaker. And the facilitator will keep track of the time and assign a ranking to
the top 3 students according to their recorded time.

V. MATH JINGLE COMPETITION


General Guidelines:
1. Each section is required to have one (1) entry with 6-10 participants.
2. Lyrics should be originally composed and written using English and Filipino language or
combination of both. Lyrics should not contain vulgar and rude words.
3. Melodies used in the jingle can be original or adapted. The content of the jingle must
showcase the theme "Mathematics for Everyone." The participants may use minus
accompaniment for their music.
4. The teams can use props or costumes.
5. On the Math culmination day, participants will provide 3 printed copies of their lyrics.
6. The performance, including entrance and exit, should not exceed 3-5 minutes.
7. The judges' decision is conclusive and cannot be reversed.

● Lyrical Content 30%
● Innovation 20%
● Impact on the Audience 10%

VI. CHESS
General Guidelines:
1. The conduct of the contest is per section.
2. There will be three winners in each section. And the winners for each section will
compete to the championship round on the said date.
3. All players are playing as individuals.
4. Each player must provide their own chess board.

Mechanics:
1. The game will follow the general rules and movements in chess.
2. The goal in chess is delivering a checkmate-trapping your opponent's king.
3. The game ends when one side's king piece is "Checkmated".
4. Matches will be held with a ten (10) Minutes limit on completion. If the match is not
completed within the ten (10) Minutes limit, the winner will be decided off of points
captured. Point values are given to each piece as it is captured.
5. After declaring the winners from each section, the winners of each section will compete
to conclude the overall champion.

VII. SUDOKU
General Guidelines:
1. Each section will conduct their own elimination.
2. There will be 3 winners in each section. And the winners for each section will proceed for
the championship round on the said date.
3. All players are playing as individuals.
4. The puzzle will be provided by the officials.
Mechanics:
1. Contenders will solve a 9x9 sudoku puzzle with 3 columns and 3 rows.
2. Each column and row has numbers 1-9.
3. They must fill in all the missing numbers in the box with no repeated numbers in each
line.
4. The fastest contender that will finish the puzzle with the correct answers will be declared
as the winner of the game.

VII. CULMINATING DAY


Culmination is on December 1, 2023 starting at 9 to 10:30 in the morning.

VI. ANNOUNCEMENT AND AWARDING (Dec. 1, 2023 at 3:00pm)

Announcement and Awarding will be on the last day of the Mathematics Festival before the
closing remarks.
VII. AWARDS
A medal and certificate of recognition will be given to the winners of the Games and Activities.

Runners-up will also receive a certificate of recognition for participating and appreciation.
