Translation of last 2 verses of

Surah Baqarah

The Messenger ˹firmly˺ believes in what

has been revealed to him from his Lord,
and so do the believers. They ˹all˺ believe
in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His
messengers. ˹They proclaim,˺ “We make
no distinction between any of His
messengers.” And they say, “We hear and
obey. ˹We seek˺ Your forgiveness, our
Lord! And to You ˹alone˺ is the final
return.”

Allah does not require of any soul more

than what it can afford. All good will be
for its own benefit, and all evil will be to
its own loss. ˹The believers pray,˺ “Our
Lord! Do not punish us if we forget or
make a mistake. Our Lord! Do not place a
burden on us like the one you placed on
those before us. Our Lord! Do not
burden us with what we cannot bear.
Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on
us. You are our ˹only˺ Guardian. So grant
us victory over the disbelieving people.”

Aamanar-Rasoolu bimaaa unzila ilaihi

mir-Rabbihee walmu’minoon; kullun
aamana billaahi wa Malaaa’ikathihee wa
Kutubhihee wa Rusulihee laa nufarriqu
baina ahadim-mir-Rusulih wa qaaloo
sami’naa wa ata’naa ghufraanaka
Rabbanaa wa ilaikal-maseer

Laa yukalliful-laahu nafsan illaa wus’ahaa;

lahaa maa kasabat wa ‘alaihaa
maktasabat; Rabbanaa laa tu’aakhiznaaa
in naseenaaa aw akhtaanaa; Rabbanaa wa
laa tahmil-‘alainaaa isran kamaa
hamaltahoo ‘alal-lazeena min qablinaa;
Rabbanaa wa laa tuhammilnaa maa laa
taaqata lanaa bih; wa’fu ‘annaa waghfir
lanaa warhamnaa; Anta mawlaanaa
fansurnaa ‘alal qawmil kaafireen

Hadith on last 2 ayat of Surah

Baqarah

Narrated Abu Mas`ud al-Ansari: The

Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “If one recites the last
two verses of Surat al-Baqarah at night, it is
sufficient for him (for that night).”
Bukhari

Abu Umama said he heard Allah’s Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬say:

Recite the Qur’an, for on the Day of

Resurrection it will come as an intercessor
for those who recite It. Recite the two
bright ones, al-Baqara and Surah Al ‘Imran,
for on the Day of Resurrection they will
come as two clouds or two shades, or two
flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those
who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqara,
for to take recourse to it is a blessing and
to give it up is a cause of grief, and the
magicians cannot confront it. (Mu’awiya
said: It has been conveyed to me that here
Batala means magicians.)

What exactly is the Quran and why is it

important?

Benefits of the last 2 verses of

Surah Baqarah
Near the end of Surah Baqarah, parts of shariah are
explained briefly. The verses start with praise for the
Muslims who have complete belief and obey in what has
been ordered of them.

Although the noble companions (RA) did

everything Nabi SAW told them to, they
still found it extremely difficult to stop all
bad thoughts from entering their minds.

When the verse before was revealed

(verse 284), the sahaba thought that they
will also be taken to account on thoughts
and they became worried. So they asked
prophet Muhammed SAW regarding this
but he SAW didn’t say anything. He
waited for revelation from Allah to come
down first.

So when the last 2 verses of surah

Baqarah were revealed, Allah gave an
explanation so that the sahaba would not
be worried anymore.

Expansion on the final verse

Allah says: “Allah does not require of any

soul more than what it can afford.” This
means that only actions will be accounted
for and not thoughts. The verse
continues: “All good will be for its own
benefit, and all evil will be to its own loss.”

What this means is that anything done

through intention will be either rewarded
if it was good, or punishment will be given
if it was bad. If whatever was done
without intention and involuntarily, then
neither reward nor punishment will be
given.

Always keep in mind if what you are doing

is good or bad. If an evil thought comes to
your mind then don’t immediately act
upon it. Think and ponder over it. Think
about it’s consequences. Be quick to
forgive others and Allah will be quick to
forgive you. Be quick to do good to others
and Allah will be quick in sending good
your way.
