9 times the sum of 69.36 and 43.9
= 9 x ( 69.36 + 43.9)
= 9 X 113.26
= 1019.34

ii. Find the estimated product of 67 tens × 9 ones 2

Question 7
Do as directed [show your working]

i. If the perimeter of a rectangle is 48 cm and its breadth is 6 cm, then find the area of a 3
rectangle.

Pg. 3
perimeter of rectangle = 48 cm

breadth of rectangle = 6 cm

perimeter= 2 x (length + breadth)

48 = 2 x (length + 6)

48 ÷ 2= length + 6
24 = length + 6
24 -6 = length
length = 18

length of rectangle =18 cm

Area of rectangle = length x breadth = 18 x 6 = 108 sq cm

iii. Amber drives to work from Monday to Friday. She drives 9km to work and 9km back 3
home. How many kms does she drive in 7 weeks, if she works Monday to Friday and
doesn’t drive on the weekends?

Pg. 4
Each day she drives = 9 + 9 = 18 km

In a week she drives for 5 days

7 weeks = 5X7 = 35 days

In 35 days she drives = 35X18 = 630 km

She will drive 630 kms in 7 weeks.

Question 6
Solve the following [show your working]

i. a] A shopkeeper has 2,425 boxes of 24 pencils each. How many pencils do all the 4
boxes have in all?

No of pencils in one box = 24

No of pencils in 2,425 boxes = 2,425 X 24

= 58,200 pencils

There are 58,200 pencils in all.

b] Maria bought 96 toys priced equally for $12,960. The amount of $1,015 is still left
with her. Find the cost of each toy and the amount she had.

The cost of 1 toy = 12,960 ÷ 96

= $135

Total amount she had = $12,960 + $1,015

= $13,975
The cost of each toy is $135 and she had a total of $13,975.
