VOCABULARY SKILLS FOR FIRST

AUDIENCE: at the theatre, circus, concert, TV or radio programme (watching and listening).

CROWD: a large number of people gathering in one place.

MOB: a disorderly crowd of people.

OBSERVER: someone who makes observations, monitors or takes notice.

VIEWER: particularly those who are watching TV; also looking carefully at a sculpture or art in
general.

SPECTATOR: at a sporting event.

ONLOOKER: someone who looks or watches without becoming involved or participating.

INSPECTOR: a person who inspects, esp.an oficial who examines for compliance with
regulations, laws.

SIGHTSEER: a tourist

WATCHER: a person who watches.

WITNESS: a person who sees, hears and knows by personal presence and experience.

GLIMPSE: see briefly. OUTING: a pleasure trip, picnic.

STARE: gaze fixedly. TRIP: a travelling from one place to another.

NOTICE: become aware of. TOUR: a long journey including the visit to many places.

VIEW: watch. TRAVEL: the act of travelling; journeys.

GLANCE: glimpse, look at. VOYAGE: travelling by ship.

SEE: have sight. EXCURSION: a short trip or outing to some place.

OBSERVE: watch, study. SPEED: quickness or rapidity in moving, travelling, performing…

SEARCH: look for. VELOCITY: rapidity or speed of motion, action or operation.

WATCH: observe. FORWARD: toward or to what is in front, in the future or in advance.

INSPECT: examine critically. AHEAD: to the front, for the future, in a forward direction.

CATCH A GLIMPSE OF: perceive briefly. ROUTE: a course, way or road for passege or travel.

CATCH SIGHT OF: glimpse, notice. BORDER: the line that seperates one country from another.

SET OFF: to embark on a journey. SET UP: to establish.
