Introduction
This manual provides information about device statuses (MDS statuses and 912 statuses) for terminals driven by
Agilis 3 91x®. These device statuses can be printed on the journal printer and also sent to the network.
This manual describes the standard Agilis 3 91x device statuses only. For information about customizing device
statuses, refer to the Agilis 3 91x Terminal Programming Manual (TP-821288-001H).
Section 3 provides a detailed description of the MDS statuses for each terminal device. The MDS statuses are in
alphabetical order by the device type and number.
Refer to Appendix A and Appendix B to interpret the 912 statuses. These appendixes include the following
information:
The Agilis 3 91x Service Pack (SP) 2 product now supports the following statues:

Manual (TP-821288-001H).
Section 2
Overview
This section contains general information about MDS statuses. This general information can be useful in
interpreting and managing MDS statuses. The following topics are discussed in this section:
This section describes how the following MDS statuses are printed on the journal printer:
001CR01:3E:48:40
Solicited status codes 001 through 009 indicate when the status occurred during the processing. As an example,
assume that the receipt printer is commanded to perform a print function, followed by a deliver function, and then
a retain function. If the solicited status code is 002, the deliver function is the function that caused the status
because it is the second function.
Refer to Table 2-1 for a list of the device types and numbers.

To interpret an MDS status, find the MDS status from the appropriate table in Section 3. Those tables are in
alphabetical order by device type and number. You may also refer to the table of contents to find the appropriate
table.
For example, to interpret CR01:3E:48:40, refer to Table 3-5 in Section 3.6. CR01:3E:48:40 means that the card
retain bin is full and must be emptied.
Whenever an operator logs on the Maintenance application and the terminal is communicating with the network,
an entry is printed on the journal printer. This entry is shown in the following format:
000MNT
b:XX:YY
XX indicates the operator who is logged on (Table 2-2). YY indicates the Maintenance menu item selected by the
operator (Table 2-3). For example, 000MNT b:07:04 indicates that operator 7 from group 0 has selected the
Supply item.

If the terminal is not communicating with the network when the Maintenance menu item is selected, the selection
is saved. Up to six selections can be saved. If more than six selections are made, only the most recent six are
saved. When the terminal communicates with the network, the Maintenance menu selections that have been
saved are printed on the journal printer in the following format:
000MNT
b:XX:YY:XX
:YY:XX:YY
:XX:YY:XX
:YY:XX:YY
The first entry printed is the most recent Maintenance menu selection. The second entry printed is the next most
recent Maintenance menu selection, and so on, up to six entries.
For systems that run terminal initiated audits (TIAs), there are two TIA statuses that print on the journal printer.
These statuses have a format similar to the Maintenance mode log entries described in Section 2.1.2.
000TIA
b:XX:10
XX indicates the operator who is logged on when the TIA session starts, as described in Section 2.1.2.
000TIA
b:XX:11
Agilis 3 91x can be configured to send TIA statuses to the network. To send TIA statuses to the network, enable
all of the following options:

The first three characters following the device type and number in the MDS status are called the status handler
byte. In the following example MDS status, the status handler byte is shown in bold:
CR01:3E:48:40
The definitions for the status handler byte are provided in Table 2-4.

these MDS statuses is CI01. Refer to Table 3-3 for the MDS statuses for the currency acceptor.
NOTE
Manipulating bins or cassettes outside of the Load/Unload Supplies operation can create a cassette fault
condition that prevents the currency acceptor from operating. In some cases, the fault might not be
reported until a consumer attempts a cash deposit transaction. If this happens, a Load/Unload Supplies
operation is required to restore currency acceptor operation.
Enhanced Note Acceptor (ENA) and Bulk Note Acceptor (BNA) - Stacking Cassette
For an ENA equipped with an ENA Stacking Cassette (ESC) or a BNA equipped with an Opteva Stacking Casstte
(OSC), the setting of the Data Reporting for Multiple Accepting Cassettes option (ACU) affects the reporting of the
following statuses:
If the option is set to Individual, the statuses of the two deposit cassettes are reported separately, as cassette 0
(nn = 01) and cassette 1 (nn = 02). If nn = 3, both deposit cassettes are nearly full or full, as applicable.
If the Data Reporting for Multiple Accepting Cassettes option is set to Combined, the statuses of the two
deposit cassettes are combined and reported as the status of cassette 0. For example, CI01:3D:37:01 would
indicate that both deposit cassettes are full.
For an OSC, the status CI01:3D:60:7C (deposit cassette missing) always indicates that both deposit cassettes
are missing.
The format of the status is CI01:61:xx:yy, where xx and yy are the hexadecimal representations of the following
bitmaps.
For all tamper status bits assigned to a cassette or bin in the preceding table, the value of a bit is 1 if the
http://doc2.diebold.com/FIISDEVTECPUB/techpubs/books/TP-821287-001/TP-821287-... 03/07/2012
(CONFIDENTIAL - Trade Secret Material) TP-821287-001F * Agilis 3 91x® Status R... Page 10 of 80
corresponding cassette or bin does not exist as part of the currency acceptor installed in the terminal.
For removable cassettes and bins, the value of a bit is 1 if the corresponding cassette or bin exists but is missing.
The value of the bit is 0 if that cassette or bin is present.
For fixed cassettes and bins that have a door sensor (that is, the terminal can detect whether the door is open or
closed), the value of the bit is 1 if the door of the corresponding cassette or bin is open. The value of the bit is 0 if
that door is closed.
EXAMPLE
For a BNA equipped with an OSC, the status CI01:61:7C:00 indicates a normal operating condition, as follows:
Deposit cassettes 0 and 1 are present (xx bits 0 and 1 are set to 0).
Cassettes 2 through 6 do not exist (xx bits 2 through 6 are set to 1).
The retract bin and the counterfeit bill bin are present (yy bits 0 and 1 are set to 0).
Enhanced Note Acceptor (ENA). For an ENA equipped with an ENA Stacking Cassette (ESC), the two deposit
cassettes in the ESC correspond to cassettes 0 and 1 in the tamper status bitmap. This mapping is not affected
by the setting of the Data Reporting for Multiple Accepting Cassettes option (ACU).
The retract bin is a fixed bin with a door sensor. The tamper status bit for the retract bin reports the status of this
door (open or closed).
The counterfeit bill bin is also a fixed bin with a door sensor. If fraudulent note detection is enabled, the tamper
status bit for the counterfeit bill bin reports the status of this door. However, if fraudulent note detection is not
enabled, the tamper status bit for the counterfeit bill bin is always set to 1. Instead, the status of the bin door is
reported using the tamper status bit for cassette 3 (xx bit 3).
Bulk Cash Recycler (BCR). The BCR can report tamper status for up to five cassettes, with the topmost cassette
always corresponding to cassette 0 of the tamper status bitmap. If the BCR is equipped with a Multiple
Acceptance Box (MAB), the status of the three MAB compartments is reported as one unit (cassette 0) rather than
as separate cassettes.
A retract bin is recognized only when the BCR is equipped with a MAB with one compartment configured as a
retract bin. In this configuration, the tamper status bit for the retract bin is set to 0 when the MAB is inserted, along
with the tamper status bit for cassette 0. Both bits are set to 1 when the MAB is removed. For all other
configurations of the BCR (with or without the MAB), the tamper status bit for the retract bin is always set to 1.
The counterfeit bill bin is a fixed bin that does not report door status to Agilis 3 91x. If fraudulent note detection is
enabled, the tamper status bit for the counterfeit bill bin is always set to 0. If fraudulent note detection is not
enabled, the tamper status bit is always set to 1.
Bulk Note Acceptor (BNA). If the BNA is equipped with a free-fall cassette, the free-fall cassette corresponds to
cassette 0 in the tamper status bitmap.
If the BNA is equipped with an Opteva Stacking Cassette (OSC), the two deposit cassettes in the OSC
correspond to cassettes 0 and 1 in the tamper status bitmap. This mapping is not affected by the setting of the
Data Reporting for Multiple Accepting Cassettes option (ACU).
The retract bin and the counterfeit bill bin are fixed bins that do not have door sensors. The tamper status bits for
these bins are always set to 0.

The additional status data is a seven-byte Hitachi TM error code that can be used in conjunction with Hitachi
diagnostic documentation to assist in diagnosing the hardware fault. Each of the seven bytes of the error code is
converted from hexadecimal data to MDS status format (for example, an error code byte of hex 4B would be
converted to the three characters :4B). The converted error code is then appended to the basic MDS status.
To enable this feature for currency acceptor operation, the Send Expanded MDS Status feature must be selected
(through the Agilis Configuration Utility (ACU) or by a Write Command 3 message).
EXAMPLE
A BCR returns the following Hitachi error code as the result of a hardware fault occurring during a currency
acceptor operation: hexadecimal 34 30 32 30 31 31 30 (cash slot lower center note presence sensor dark check

If an error occurs when attempting to process a state (for example, an invalid next state number, specified by
either state data or a function command), Agilis 3 91x prints a State-Escape status on the journal printer. The
State-Escape status data has the following format:
CNS
b:nnn
Where nnn is the state number of the state that could not be processed.
For example, if the status is CNS b:A12, an error occurred when attempting to process state number A12.
A common State-Escape status is CNS b:000. Typically, this status indicates that the terminal received a
command to go in service, but the terminal did not have a state 000 configured.
When a state-escape event occurs, the terminal sends the network an unsolicited Powerfail status message that
includes the terminal's LUNO (Diebold logical unit number). If Agilis 3 91x is configured to include the MDS status,
the Powerfail status message has the following format.
12.xxx..1.000CNS
b:nnn
Where xxx represents the LUNO, and the period characters ( . ) represent field separators.
