1. INTRODUCTION

This Method Statement provides Information on the methodology to be followed during the duct bank
and manhole construction activity for the project “Design & Construction Execution of New
Electrical Power Station Alternative of Electrical Power Station No-1794 At Qatar University”.

2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this method statement is to ensure that duct bank & manhole construction and related
activities are executed in accordance with the contract requirements, hazards are analyzed, safety
procedures implemented, all quality assurance / control activities are conducted in a systematic manner,
works inspected and documented.

3. SCOPE OF WORKS

This method statement covers detailed methodology to be adopted in the construction duct bank and
manhole construction for utility tie-in.

6. WORK METHDOLOGY (PROCEDURE)

General

• Permit Requirements: Before commencing any work, all permits as required shall be obtained,
all permits shall be identified and logged on a register.
• Survey work – Implementation of the coordinates at the proposed utility routes and duct bank
locations based on the drawings. & documents.
• TDP - Road crossing duct bank location partially /Fully Traffic diversion prior to the Duct bank
construction.
• Plant & Equipment: All the required plants and equipment will be deployed as required.
• Traffic Management: Traffic arrangements will be made with the assistance of HSE personnel.
• Before commencing the work required permits shall be obtained from the concerned authority.
• Prior to the start of work a traffic diversion plan need to be implemented at the proposed duct
bank location.
• On completion of traffic diversion works and apparatus shall be removed, and land affected
shall be reinstated its original conditions.
• All existing traffic movements will be diverted via the temporary diversion for the duration of
the TDP period.

Duct Bank Construction

• After establishment of TDP, the outline of the asphaltic to be removed shall be cut in clean,
straight lines with a power-driven saw to a depth equal to the depth of the existing asphalt before
removing the surfacing.
• Before the start of excavation, the hard/soft landscaping had to be removed, as required.
• The road will be excavated with a front-end loader, backhoe or Excavator, to be required depth.
• The required number of PVC pipes to be installed.
• Reinforcement and shuttering for concrete pouring to be done. Minimum 150mm concrete to
be provided from the PVC pipe to concrete edge.
• For concrete poring ensure Concrete delivered at site within the specified time/interval and
ensure uninterrupted supply of concrete, so as to avoid cold joint.
• At road paving area, the concrete shall be poured up to the bottom level of asphalt (i.e. top level
of base layer).
• The asphalt road to be reinstated with prime coat, binder coat, tack coat and wearing course.
• Hard / Soft landscaping to be reinstated after completion of backfilling and duct bank
construction.

Manhole Construction

• The pit is excavated to its required depth to receive the concrete base for the construction of the
manhole. The base shall be adequate is size to receive the external concrete surround to the
manhole.
• The position of the manhole shall be checked to avoid misalignment of pipes down and up
stream of the manhole.
• Shoring to the pit shall be provided if the pit measured from the top edge is more than 1.5m.
• The required rebar and formwork to be erected and cast the base and allow the concrete to set
for the next day, to complete the chamber wall and slab reinforcement and formwork.
• Before concrete poring ensure the required PVC, pipes are installed at the correct level.
• After concrete curing period remove the inside formwork and provide benching at the bottom
of manhole.
• The surrounding area of manhole to be backfilling layer by layer (150mm thick).

• Above PVC pipe, 200 mm thick dune sand to be laid and settled with water.

7. HEALTH AND SAFETY:


• Galfar is committed to providing all site staff appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
an, as a minimum, all staff will wear hard hat, hi-visibility vest safety goggles and safety
boots/shoes.
• Additional PPE, such as coveralls, safety harness, gloves, etc. will be provided if specifically
required for a particular job.
• The HSE officer will ensure that the HSE plans are communicated to the work force and will
be regularly monitored so that they are fully adhered to by the site personnel. Furthermore, the
Safety Engineer will appoint a dedicated HSE officer who report to him. HSE reports will be
submitted on a daily basis. For details refer to our submitted HSE plan.
• All precautions during the stages of work shall be done under the direction and monitored by a
competent HSE officer as per HSE plan.
• The area in which workers are exposed to danger shall be guarded by barriers and warning tapes
as a warning of danger. Barriers and barricades left after dark on or close to roadways will be
properly equipped with flashing lights.
• Workers must be required to wear hard hats and those exposed in vehicular traffic shall wear a
warning vest marked with or made of reflectorized or high visibility material at all the times as
an additional safeguard.
And to carry out regular housekeeping, maintaining a clean and safe working place.
