LESSON PLAN

Trade: Draughtsman Mechanical (CITS) Module/Unit: 03

Date: 18.01.2021 Time: 40 minutes
Lesson No: 01

I. PREPARATION:

Title: Introduction to Isometric Drawing.

1) Objectives: At the end of the lesson the trainees will be able to

1. Define Isometric Drawing.

2. List types of Isometric Drawing.
3. State and explain Isometric View.
4. State and explain Isometric projection.

2) Teaching Aids: White Board, Duster, Pointer

3) Introduction
a) Review: 2D and 3D coordinate system.
b) Motivation: How 3-dimensional shapes of solids are drawn on sheets?

II. PRESENTATION:

Developments / Topics Information Points Hints

Definition It is a method of making a 3

dimensional object on a 2 W/B
dimensional sheet.

Types  Isometric View W/B

 Isometric Projections

Isometric View Iso means Same and Metric W/B

means Measurement. A 3D
view, which is drawn by taking
true length of an object on 3
axes X,Y and Z at an angle of
120 deg with each other.

Developments / Hints
Topics Information Points

Isometric Projection It is a true representation of an

isometric view of an object. The
dimensions of an object taken on W/B
drawing are measured through
isometric scale.
I.S = Isometric Length
Isometric Scale (I.S) True Length of object W/B
= 0.8165
Therefore,
Isometric length = 0.8165 x
True Length

III. APPLICATION:
a. What is an Isometric Drawing?
b. What are the types of Isometric Drawings?
c. What is the difference between Isometric View and Isometric Projection?
d. How we can calculate the isometric length of an object?

Summary:
Definition of an Isometric drawing and its types, Isometric view, Isometric Projections and
Isometric Scale.

IV. TEST
Assignment:
a. Explain Isometric Drawing?
b. Difference between true length and Isometric length of an object?
