LESSON 2.

3 EBBINGHAUS FORGETTING CURVE MODEL

Today we shall learn about the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve Model

As sure as the sunrise, human beings tend to forget things learned in the
past.
This lesson will help us understand how we fast forget.

Forgetting Curve
Refers to the loss of learned information has been a product of series of
experiments conducted on memory, according to Hermann Ebbinghaus
(1850-1909).
This theory states that humans start losing the memory of learned
knowledge over time, in a matter of days or weeks, unless the learned
knowledge is consciously reviewed time again.

In the article of Wadsworth (2019)

He mentioned that college students who after a day or two of
attending classes, will have forgotten 75% of what was learned and that
forgetting occurs within first hour. Interestingly, although he is said to be a
natural process. It is possible to disrupt that particular process (Wardsworth)
Looking at graph, it can be noticed from the graph that our memory starts to
fade as days go by.
Again, simple process can be employed to delay forgetting and can help us
retain the information needed at later date.

As mentioned earlier, forgetting can be slowed down or disrupted. Take

a look at the second paragraph, it can be observed there that forgetting can be
overcome by space learning.
Space Learning
While an initial review of material will help you remember in the short
term, reviewing material multiple times and different intervals will help you
retain it for much longer.
 The graph shows how review affects memory.
 You can now see that every time you review material you both retain
much more information and your forgetting curve steadies out at a
much higher level.
 Each time you review material, you take much more away.
 Minimum amount of review is three. (Whitman, yyyy)

 The dramatic increase proves how much review can do to students in

retaining learned information over the period of time.
 It shows how review affects memory.

What is DepEd Order No 21 S 2023 all about?

DepEd Order No. 21, series of 2023, is a significant policy directive issued
by the Department of Education in the Philippines. This order focuses on the
enhancement of the K-12 Basic Education Program, aiming to provide
quality education to all Filipino learners.

Advantages
 A poster speaks for itself; the presence of its author is not necessary. It
is therefore possible to reach a broader audience when compared to a
presentation limited in time.

 It is also possible to present several posters in the same room and at the
same time; visitors can have a look at those posters they are interested
in.

 Sometimes as the author you have the possibility to present a poster

while giving a short introduction. An interactive situation evolves while
having a close contact to the audience, closer than when delivering a
speech.

 Posters can be used several times and presented at different events.

 A poster is suited for people suffering from stage fright at least, for
those who have difficulties when speaking in front of large groups.
Standing next to their poster for some time in order to answer just a few
questions is less stressful than talking on a lectern.

Disadvantages

 Once a poster is printed it will be difficult to make corrections or

adaptions; it is therefore less flexible when compared to a presentation
that can be modified any time

 A poster must attract attention. Especially when being presented at a

poster fair, it has to compete with many others posters.

 Preparing a poster can take just as much time as when writing a speech.
However, practice makes perfect.

 Posters generally require reduced content as well as getting to the point.

Selecting what has to be included or omitted is not always easy.
