INTRODUCTION

India is one of the busiest


countries in the world in
terms of road traffic.
With the rapid increase in
the number of cars and the
mercilessly congested roads,
road safety has turned into a
factor of utmost importance
for the countries'
importance. About 3 to 5 %
of the GDP was invested in
road accidents each year.

DO YOU KNOW?
• Two people die every hour in Uttar Pradesh with a maximum number
of road crash deaths.
• With over 1,30,000 deaths annually,the country has overtaken China
and now has the worst road traffic accident rate worldwide.
• One serious road accident in the country occurs every minute and 16
dies on Indian roads every hour.

Steps taken by Central Government to
improve road safety
• 13th meeting of NSRC discussed the following
measures to improve safety:
• Action against overloading ,action against drunken
driving, and removal of liquor shops on NHs.
• Enforcements of use of seat belts by & ISI helmets by 2
wheelers
• Improvement of Vahan & Sarathi software to capture
legacy data ,traffic violations ,detection of fake licenses
• Compulsory training before issuance
of permanent driving license for commercial vehicle
drivers.

Some Road Safety Rules

• Be conscious of the road conditions .Go


slowly and carefully.
• Right use of indicators when you want to
change lanes on National and State
Highways and in turns.
• Do not use high beam lights that
would blind the travellers coming on the
opposite side.
• Follow the road signs .Drive safely in
accident prone zones because NAZAR HATI
DURGHATNA GHATI .
• Always be prepared to face any emergency
situation when travelling , carry a first aid kit
, be ready to help in case you find someone
injured.

stunts or experiments with drifting techniques,

• Use of vehicles without a license can be


charged with a fine of thousand to five thousand
rupees.
• Penalties for traffic rule violations are updated on
a regular basis to keep the number of road
accidents in check.
• The main goal of all these is to regulate the flow
of vehicles and promote safe travel conditions
for all.
Conclusion
Traffic accidents are a major cause of deaths in India and it
has affected a huge number of families. Hence it becomes
very important that everyone should strictly follow the
traffic rules and should always drive safely with respecting
the other people and vehicles on
road. Children should be
well practiced from the end of their parents at home and
get proper study by the teacher in school .Better
infrastructure of roads with sufficient illumination should
be provided in order to ensure safety.
A unison effort from each and every one could definitely
reduce the number of accidents and make our roads safer.
