CURSOR, in conjunction with our dedicated students, has orchestrated a

extravaganzas. The crowning glory was Technix 2023, an event that
exceeded all expectations. This success was made possible through the
relentless efforts and creativity of our council members and the active
participation of our talented students.

I also want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Magazine team for

In my role as the General Secretary of the CURSOR council, I've encountered a roller coaster of
experiences. Leading a team of 13 diverse and committed individuals through these challenges
has deeply influenced how I lead and how I've grown personally. Through this journey I’ve
learned to be a leader who has a clear vision, always acts with honesty, and never gives up in the
face of adversity. In my whole tenure of being a GS, I faced many challenges along the way, but
thanks to the unwavering support of my fellow Cursor Council members, we conquered every
obstacle together. This is where I truly grasped the incredible strength of CURSOR, which lies in
our teamwork.

In summary, my tenure as the General Secretary has been a transformational journey. It has
developed my leadership, decisiveness, vision, integrity, and resilience. These qualities have not

new reality, thanks to the merging of healthcare with artificial
intelligence (AI). This fusion is changing how diseases are
spotted, how treatments are designed, and how we experience
medical care. So, let's dive into the whirlwind of AI's recent
ventures into the healthcare sector and see how it's shaping a
future we once thought was only possible in movies.
AI-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: Mental health issues
are becoming very common in the modern world. However,
addressing them is time-consuming and often very expensive.
This emerging method is detecting depression, eating
disorders, and substance abuse and helps provide apt
treatments through customized medical services.
Automatic Stroke Detection: Identifying the exact spot of
collapse is still a hectic task for medical professionals.
Automation and AI tools can aid the medical staff in stroke
detection and treatment. With the help of automation stroke

enough medical staff including doctors and nurses to
handle the overflowing patients. Fortunately, digital
nurses are here to transform patient care. They can help
monitor patient conditions between doctor visits. For
example, Molly is a digital nurse created by Sense.ly to
keep an eye on patient conditions
Conclusion While we wrap up our journey through these
astonishing AI applications in healthcare, it's pretty clear
that we're not just witnessing a fleeting trend – we're part
of a groundbreaking shift in how we look at medicine.
However, amidst all the AI marvels, we must remember
that the heart of healthcare is still human. No amount of
fancy technology can replace the healing touch of a doctor
or the reassuring words of a nurse. As AI and healthcare
continue their dance into the future, let's make sure that
we're not just chasing the next big thing, but we're using
these innovations to create a healthier, happier world
where both humans and machines work in harmony to

Meet Frontier : 

The worlds fastest computer

T he world’s latest fastest supercomputer, Frontier at Oak Ridge National Lab, in Tennessee, is so powerful
that it operates faster than the next seven best supercomputers combined and more than twice as well as the
machine ranking at 2nd. Frontier is not only the first machine to break the Exascale barrier, a threshold of a
billion, billion calculations per second, but is also ranked No. 1 as the world’s most energy-efficient
supercomputer.

This absolute marvel of a machine has been engineered and developed by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and
Hewlett Packard Enterprise, clocking in speeds up to 1.1 exaflops, faster than the next seven most powerful
supercomputers on Earth *combined*- Yes, this machine can single-handedly compute faster than any other
machine that comes close to rivaling it.

With the advent of Frontier, calculations on supercomputers will get 10 times faster. In addition, Frontier is
also the world's most energy efficient supercomputer with 52.23 gigaflops performance per watt, making it
32% more energy efficient compared to the previous number one system, Japan’s Fugaku hosted in Kobe,
Japan. And if that wasn’t enough, Frontier also performed exceptionally well on artificial intelligence
benchmarks. This category is officially called "mixed-precision computing" and rates performance in formats
that are generally used for artificial intelligence, wherein the computer showed speeds up to 6.88 exaflops. In
other words, at an exascale speed, Frontier’s users can develop AI models that are 4.5X faster and 8X larger,
allowing to train more data that can increase predictability and speed time-to-discovery, which also allows
for further developments in the world of artificial intelligence.

Frontier consists of 74 HPE Cray EX supercomputing cabinets, that deliver end-to-end capabilities comprised
of compute, accelerated compute, software, storage and networking to support the magnitude of exascale
performance, each weighing more than 3,600 kilograms, which altogether hold more than 9,400 computing
nodes. Each node contains one optimized third-generation AMD EPYC 64-core 2-gigahertz “Trento” processor
for general tasks and four AMD instinct MI250x accelerators for highly parallel supercomputing and AI
operations, as well as 4 terabytes of flash memory to help quickly feed the GPUs data. In total, Frontier
contains 9,408 CPUs, 37,632 GPUs, and 8,730,112 cores, linked together by 145 kilometers of networking
cables. The lab says it’s world-leading supercomputer consumes about 21 megawatts.

A machine with processing speeds of this stature is expected and does generate an immense amount of heat,
hindering the working of the machine. The cabinets are chilled using liquid cooling. According to Gerald Kleyn,
vice president of HPC and AI systems at HPE, the supercomputer can achieve up to five times the density of a
traditional, air-cooled architecture. The result is a compact system that in turn dramatically reduces cabling
requirements and operational expenses.

The next steps for Frontier include continued testing and validation of the system. The lab says it remains on
track for final acceptance and early science access later in 2022 and is planned to open for full science at the
beginning of 2023.

Projects already planned for Frontier include research into cancer, drug discovery, nuclear fusion, exotic
materials, superefficient engines, and stellar explosions. The aim of the machine is to speed the time required
for such work from weeks to hours and from hours to seconds.

While researchers gain access to this fully operational and absolute gem of an engineering masterpiece, it
voyages us to a new path of discoveries and will also aid in closing chapters of mysteries on the verge of being
debunked by scientists. The sheer strength of computational and calculation capabilities of this machine has
the potential to slingshot the answers of the universe to us for our comprehension.

My journey at Goa Engineering College
commenced in 2020, during the time of the
Covid pandemic. Those initial months were
marked by the daily grind of attending online
lectures from 9 to 5. Despite the challenges,
Semester 1 went relatively smoothly. However,
it was Semester 2 that truly tested my
resilience, as I became Covid positive. I
communicated my situation to my professors,
and their unwavering support and
coordination were instrumental during this
challenging period. It was during these online
classes that I discovered a world of knowledge
and exploration, guided by our dedicated
professors. As the semester unfolded,
Semester 3 brought a glimmer of hope as
lectures transitioned into a hybrid mode. The
sight of lush greenery, refreshing rain showers,
and the campus in full bloom felt like stepping
into a heavenly oasis. The simple act of
commuting to college, attending lectures, and
returning home became a cherished routine,
filling me with enthusiasm and energy.
Meeting professors and classmates in person
after a year-long hiatus was a heartwarming
reunion. Semester 3 passed by, and we
advanced to the next level, embracing full-
fledged offline classes, academic challenges,
writing papers, and file preparations made us
experience how true college life is. We actively
participated in events and programs, including
the technical departmental event Technix and
our crowning achievement, winning the Tandav
12 trophy. The success in Technix and Tandav
would not have been possible without the
unwavering support of our faculty and unity
among students.
Additionally, I had the privilege of being a part of two
clubs, further enriching my college experience. In the
blink of an eye, three years raced past, leaving me with
an invaluable treasure trove of experiences. My college
has given me more than just knowledge; it has
bestowed upon me unwavering faculty support,
instilled the drive to achieve greatness, and fostered
an environment where ideas flourish. Whether it was
seeking answers to doubts with friends, planning and
executing events, or witnessing professors transition
seamlessly from teaching to active participation in
programs and events, Goa Engineering College has
become a second home. The relationships forged with
our professors are truly remarkable and will forever
hold a special place in my heart. From being appointed
as a class coordinator by Ma'am Marushka in Semester
3 to seeking her guidance for my final year project, the
journey has been transformative. I have attended
enlightening Technix talks and had the privilege of
being a speaker, thanks to Nitesh Sir. The guidance and
support of Jal Sir, Bapat Sir, Nargaraj Sir, Gajanan Sir,
Adelete Sir, Amit Sir, Teslin Sir, Sherica Ma'am, Manisha
Ma'am, Rachel Ma'am, Melina Ma'am, Prachi Ma'am,
and Salena Ma'am have been invaluable, and they
have always been there to resolve my doubts and offer
their support. Indeed, embracing the journey is just as
vital as reaching the destination. Goa Engineering
College has illuminated the power of community,
personal growth, and the importance of striking a
balance in academic life. The experiences gained and
the moments shared will forever reside in my fondest
memories.

A Kaleidoscope
on Life
A glazed ember on methanotrophs, a
soft dew perspiring on the leaves of a
lilac, life as we call it may present itself
to its adorners in such disparate and
varied ways that, if incubated, could
lead to branching of philosophical
ideologies that could span galaxies.
What may be represented as a spirit in
cartoons, scared out of animated bodies
to represent something that
encompasses or is in control of the body,
a spirit, a modulation of a divine energy
that throttles us to what we call “life”, is
an intricate entity that we journey, or
rather drives us to the action of living.
This entity, life as we call it, has
abstractions beyond what our intellect
can capture. Besides, being up for
personal ratification and paraphrasing,
we can define life in such personalized
terms that completely appeal to
individuals they sprout from. Formally
defined as a noun, with respect to the
time interval between one’s birth and
death, it is explicitly beyond what this
could it?

definition constricts it to be. It is this, and so
much more and beyond, a culmination of the
trillions of entities blessed to be among the
chosen to be served on a platter, insects,
animals, microbes, the mosquito preventing you
from waking up early, a palette of colours that
range from the most depressing of sallows to
the joyous vermilions.
Amongst the buzzing horns of the morning
traffic and the pedestrians hustling about to
earn their daily bread, each is to their own
perception, their own phase, the protagonists of
their story. Captured in moments like these are
vectors of varying trajectories, each with their
own expectations and past vectors which
brought them all to that very moment,
intertwining for a brief moment of what can
seem to be entirely planned by the universe, but

I gratify life by believing it to be a mediation of

the good, the horrible, and everything in
between. every shade traversed, every harvest
accepted, each soul filled with a laugh and each
drained by anguish, each hardened with
tenacity, each shaped by an intricate emotion.

This canvas to be filled by all shades we are

blessed to conceive, to paint the darkest clouds,
and the greenest of hills, the holiest of altars,
we live, for we have been blessed with life.

VIOLET LIFE
It was the dawn of the night. When in
actuality, she saw her rival, Sunflower
flapping her musket wings with brown
luster...the sun was coming up. An antithetical
play of nature was it, Sunflower was
welcoming the morning warmth, she was
tapping her not so attractive petals to her
soul. A blanket of warmth for the chilling
brisk of the night. Sunflower was sunning her
body in the prospering tan. She was trying to
let her eyelids fall on one another amidst the
dew of the moon. Who was she? The daughter
of the mother who gave way her life, gave
away herself. "What is your dream mother?
What is your destiny?" She, the aromatic and
ivory daughter whispers in secrecy. "Destiny is
where we part ways with the start. Love,
we're all going to die with the dead. Meet
your ends believing the sacrifice of you..came
at the bargained price of peace. The cost of
goodness." Fourteen days later, She, the cold
sick daughter, stands in her weak twigs and
unrooted roots. Alone. Orphan in the night.
The moon accompanies her shivers in the
blood erupting eclipse. Her mother was dead.
Uprooted by the hands which didn't intend to
be the martyr of the family that had a destiny
to be fulfilled. James, the son of his cancer

their door, "the house of the freshness." "Dad? Uh..I think
we are forgetting about the flowers. I don't want my
mother's body to shrink into the bones of her ribcage
with no flowers. These flowers actually say something."
James screamed. The mother of the daughter flower
exhaled and blinked. "My child, you are my greatest
creation...the one that exceeds any form of
destiny...that's you." "Mother, why the dramatization of
the tone? What's happening?" The daughter in slow
motion fear put her petals on her mother's head.
"Alright. James, pluck them up. Pick these flowers that
your mother birthed when the war with cancer began.
This shall be the memory. This shall be the legacy she
takes with her." James squinting with his eyes and
tickling the daughter in inspection, stood still. "He's
making me laugh so hard...stop it." The daughter tried
to deliver in her unclear chatter. "Let me capture this
sight of yours. The sunshine of your smile, my daughter
I wish to take with me." The mother was preparing
herself. "Take? Take where?" James was a few
centimeters away from their bodies, already destroying
their house with the sniff of his nose. He was staring
right into their souls..one of which was about to dabble
with the afterlife. "God, please

but the roots will penetrate the story of another
flower. Born to die. Again and again. My
destiny." She recounted her story to the
caterpillar that was driving past her road with
his wheels. Still rubbing her pale cheeks with
her pale palms..that won't touch her mother's
arms anymore. In the cold, Forever haunted by

with faculty members and students from the third and

On October 20, 2022, the Computer Engineering Student Organization, CURSOR
Council, was rebooted and inaugurated in a grand ceremony held at the Mining
Department. The CURSOR Council's reboot event began with great anticipation

FAREWELL
On June 9, 2023, the final year students of Computer Department were bid
farewell in a heartwarming ceremony at the Department Auditorium. The
ceremony began with a welcome address by the TEs. Siya Golatkar, a Third Year
student, started the address by welcoming everyone to the event and sharing a few
fond memories of her time with the final year students. Prof. Amey, Prof. Amit and
Prof. Nitesh spoke about the BEs as a talented and hardworking batch of students.
They wished the final year students all the best in their future endeavors and also
thanked them for their contributions to the department and the college.

After the speeches, a memorable video by Kaustubh (TE) was played. The video
showcased the BEs' journey through the four years of engineering, capturing their
moments of joy, sorrow, friendship, fun and camaraderie. The BEs then spoke,
sharing their own reflections on their time at the college. They reflected upon the
fun they had with their friends and the memories that we're made along the way.
They also expressed their excitement for the future and their commitment to
making a positive impact on the world. Next, mementos were given to every
student from the hands of faculties.

The mementos consisted of a yearbook with a quote by every student in the

class. A group photo of students with faculties was taken to mark the
conclusion of the formal function.

After the ceremony, the students and faculties enjoyed a variety of

entertainment activities, including games, singing, and dancing. A large group
of final year students came together to sing various songs that reminded
themselves of the past 4 years of engineering.

The students also had a photo session where they clicked pictures with each
other. This was a great opportunity to capture their last moments together as a
college community. The entertainment time concluded with a group dance
and music performance by the students.

The farewell event ended with a delicious dinner for all the students and
faculties. Overall, the farewell of the final year students was a heartwarming
and memorable event. It was a fitting tribute to a talented and hardworking
batch of students. The students and faculties alike enjoyed the evening and
cherished the memories they made together.

Lavkush Tari's React Workshop on November 10, 2022,
provided participants with an immersive journey into
React, a widely-used JavaScript library for building user
interfaces. The workshop covered React fundamentals,
including components, state management, and JSX syntax,
with participants actively engaged in hands-on exercises
and projects. Lavkush shared best practices and advanced
topics, ensuring attendees gained a deep comprehension
of React's capabilities. The workshop's practical approach
and code review session left participants equipped with
the skills to develop dynamic and interactive web
applications using React.

FIRST EVER MINECRAFT

LAN COMPETITION IN

TECHNIX'23 featured
a groundbreaking event
known as MineFiesta,
making it the first ever
Minecraft LAN
Championship in Goa.
This unique gaming
competition brought
together enthusiasts
and avid Minecraft
players, creating a
platform for intense
competition, and
showcasing the
immense potential of
Minecraft in a LAN
setting. MineFiesta at
TECHNIX '23 set a new standard in the gaming community, providing a one-of-a-kind experience for both participants and
spectators alike, making it a memorable and pioneering event in the realm of gaming tournaments in Goa.The hosting team
for this event was led by the organizers, Aryan Ghorpade and Farhan Bukhari. They were supported by a dedicated volunteer
team, which comprised of Abhijeet Mandrekar, Ashwin Bokade,
Yash Kerkar, and Anirudh Kamat, all of whom played essential roles in
ensuring the success of MineFiesta. Ashwin ensured that the scoring for
the tournament was done flawlessy. Not to forget Anirudh, who made it
possible to stream the tournament for the eager audience on a big screen in
the department and also on Youtube.

Hosting this event presented its own set of challenges, primarily because it
was the inaugural Minecraft LAN competition in Goa. The planning
process involved meticulous coordination of elements such as PC
infrastructure, LAN configurations, selection of minigames, map pool,
scoring mechanisms, streaming setups, qualification rounds, and a plethora
of other behind-the-scenes considerations.

The event featured a captivating array of minigames, with specially

designed maps for the championship, adding an extra layer of excitement
for participants. In preparation for the tournament, an all-nighter was
pulled to ensure the LAN environment was operating seamlessly.

The prizes for the tournament were very attractive. A custom 3D printed attractive trophy with Rs.3000 for the first place
along with a cash prize of Rs.6000. Generous sponsorship from TheGoanGamer extended to the second and third-place
winners, further enhancing the attractiveness of the competition.

Certainly, it's crucial to acknowledge the invaluable support provided by Prof. Nitesh Naik, who played a pivotal role in
ensuring the seamless execution of the event. He not only facilitated the event's smooth operation but also served as an
unwavering pillar of support throughout the entire event.

event was a resounding success, characterized by
flawless execution from start to finish. All the
participants enjoyed competing in the tournament,
and most importantly, they all had fun. The fact that
all participants not only enjoyed the competition but
also had a fantastic time is a testament to the hard
work and dedication of the entire MineFiesta team.
Our event unfolded flawlessly, and we are thrilled to
report that we have set a new standard for future
Minecraft tournaments. MineFiesta at TECHNIX '23
will be remembered as a truly memorable and
groundbreaking event.

MACHINE
LEARNING TALK
Cursor, along with the GEC Coders Club, recently organized a talk
called "Demystifying Machine Learning" for our college magazine. The
speaker was one of our TE Comp student Pratham Shankwalker. This
talk aimed to help students understand Machine Learning and Deep
Learning in a straightforward way. It also provided a step-by-step plan
for students to get certified in TensorFlow by Google.

During the talk, students learned about different

Machine Learning concepts like Regression,
Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and
Timeseries Forecasting through various real world
examples. The speaker also explained how neural
networks in deep learning work.

We were excited to see that more than 80 students

attended the event, showing a strong interest in this
topic. This talk surely helped students grasp the
basics of Machine Learning and Deep Learning.

"Technix 2023," the annual flagship event
of the Computer Department at Goa
Engineering College. As the Event Manager,
I am thrilled to share the details of our
successful event.
Preparations
Our journey towards making Technix 2023 a
resounding success began in February, immediately
after the conclusion of the fifth-semester exams.
During this period, we dedicated ourselves to
meticulous planning, coordination, and developing
roadmap for success of Technix 23. The main goal of
the cursor council 23 was to uplift the Technix 23 as
the flagship technical event organized by Goa College
of Engineering.
2.Event Highlights
Inauguration Ceremony: The event commenced with
great pomp and honour as we had the privilege of
hosting IT Minister of State of Goa Shri. Rohan Khuate ­
for the inauguration ceremony. Their presence added
prestige to our event and set the stage for a memorable
experience.

Technix 2023 witnessed an overwhelming response from

students around about 700+, both from our college and
neighbouring institutions. We were delighted to have a
multitude of enthusiastic participants who contributed
to the event's vibrancy.

Our event featured a diverse range of technical

competitions that challenged the intellect and creativity
of our participants. These competitions included coding
contests, hackathons, speed typing, and many more. The
high level of engagement and innovative solutions
presented by the participants made these competitions
truly memorable.
