BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Kalokol Township Village is located at the shores of Lake Turkana to the West hosting a good
number of villages.
Following the ongoing El Nino rainfall, most rivers are draining at Lake Turkana hence there has
been increased outflow of water towards the catchment area land hence displacing most village’s
occupants residing at the shores of Lake Turkana. Kalokol Village unit Census population rate in
2019 was 16,413, due to fishing activities that attracted the neighboring ward and sub-counties,
the projection population now is 20,000.
Affected sub-villages are; Natirae 1&2,Lopangae, Natole 1&2,Kura, Akadokot, Loroo, Impressa,
Nariemet, Daraja, Ekoyo, Lomosing, Kenya Oil, Napeidukan and Namakat.
Its estimated that 1900 households and a population of 9500 have been affected hence families
affected extensively.
i. County Government together with well-wishers to come in first and assist in alliterating
the suffering the displace families are undergoing.
ii. Health department to carry out supported outreaches to address the upsurge of diseases.
iii. Support on basic commodities and cash transfers to the affected community
iv. Ministry of land together with local administration to conduct public barazas supported
and identity their relocation.
