Program: BTech, Metallurgy and Materials Engg. Class: II year I Sem Section: nil

Course Title: Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering Course Code: EE232

Answer all questions. Each question carries 5 marks,

Q1. If Vab = 36V, what is Vac?

Q2. An ammeter has a resistance of 0.1 ohm and a full scale deflection of 2.5A. Calculate the
shunt resistance to be added to convert it into an ammeter having full scale deflection of 50A.
Q3. A dc generator produces a terminal voltage of 115V when the load current is 10A and
105V when the load current is 15A. Model the generator as an ideal voltage source in series
with a resistor.

Q4.
Q5.

Q6. A magnetic circuit has a single air gap. The core dimensions are: Cross-sectional
area Ac = 1.8 × 10-3 m2, Mean core length lc = 0.6 m , Gap length g = 2.3 x 10-3 m , N = 83
turns Assume that the core is of infinite permeability and neglect the effects of fringing fields
at the air gap and leakage flux. Calculate the coil inductance.

Q7. The following data were obtained for a 20-kVA, 60-Hz, 2400:240V distribution
transformer tested at 60 Hz:

Compute the efficiency at full-load current and 0.8 power factor lag.
Rated current on the HV side = 20 kVA / 2400 = 8.33 A. Therefore, total
power loss at full load current:
Q8. Compare and contrast the three electric heating methods.
