Tutorial (2)
Activity on Arrow (A.O.A)

• The Activity on Arrow (AOA) - also known as Arrow diagramming method (ADM) - is a
network diagramming technique for project scheduling.
• Activities are represented by arrows.
• Relationships between activities are represented through the use of circular nodes to link
arrows.

Nodes:
• A node is a specific, definable achievement in the project.
• It has zero duration and consumes zero resources.
• All activities that lead to a node must be completed before the activities following this node can
start.
Arrows:
In AOA networks, there are two types of activities:
• Real activities
• Dummy activities
Dummy activities:
• Have zero durations.
• Have zero resources

Activity on Arrow (A.O.A)

Dummy activities are used:

• To help represent the logic of the network

• To ensure that no activities have the same start and end points at the same time.
