Energy Flow with Methodology

Abstract:

The electric vehicle (EV) charging station is a critical part of the infrastructure for the wide adoption of EVs . In
this statement the Methodology and energy flow diagram of an energy system are the bases of its operation and
planning. This document establishes the model of energy systems and the coupling of switchgears for an electric
Vehicle Charging Infra, and an energy flow model. A simplified method for EV charging infra is shown in SLD. In
addition, a numerical calculation for energy flow of EV charging infra is described for the proposed SLD.

Introduction:

Methodology:

I. Supply from utilities: -

1) TANGEDCO (Discom) RMU (ring main unit) consist of 2 LBS (load break switch) & 1 Motorised
VCB (vacuum circuit breaker), where 11kV power will be fed from TANGEDCO (DISCOM)
substation to Input of (LBS-1) load break switch. The RMU is outdoor type and single side
extensible.
2) There is second LBS (load break switch 2) shown as a spare for connecting second source
considering redundancy of power.
3) Power will be delivered to 630 Amp Al. Bus bar where output will be delivered from 630 Amp.
VCB.
4) Protection provided at Motorised VCB are (As per utility guidelines)

 50 Instantaneous Overcurrent
 50N Neutral Instantaneous Over current
 51 AC Time Overcurrent protection
 51N Neutral Time Overcurrent protection

5) Power from outlet of RMU will be supplied to 11kv Metering Cubicle where all associated
metering instruments (CT, PT, TVM meter) measures the Consumption of energy which is to be
utilized by EV Infra. (Measurements of KWH, KVAH, KVARH, M.D., C.M.D. will be quantify for
Monthly billing cycle.)
6) From Outlet of Metering Cubicle 11kv Power will be delivered to consumer/user end RMU.
7) HT cable from input of TANGEDCO Point to Input of User RMU will be directly laid in ground as
per methodology written in IS 1255 termination IS 8061 or as per the TANGEDCO guidelines.
8) IS 732 for Electrica wiring

II. HT Section: -

1) User RMU (ring main unit) consist of 630 Amp Al. Bus bar having breaking capacity of 21kA/3
sec. & 3 Way (VVV+M) combination which consists of 3 nos. of 630-amp vacuum circuit breaker
and metering arrangement. The RMU is outdoor type and single side extensible & floor
mounted.
2) Power from 11kv Metering Cubicle as show in SLD will be given to Input of Incomer.
Energy Flow with Methodology

3) Incomer Breaker Consists of Protections as follows

 50 Instantaneous Overcurrent
 50N Neutral Instantaneous Over current
 51 AC Time Overcurrent protection
 51N Neutral Time Overcurrent
 27 Under Voltage protection
 59 Over voltage protection
4) 2 Nos. of outgoing Breaker of 630-amp will be provided for protection of Transformer having
OLTC cubicle.
5) Each Outgoing breaker Consists of Protections as follows

 50 Instantaneous Overcurrent
 50N Neutral Instantaneous Over current
 51 Overload
 51N Neutral Time Overcurrent
 OTI/OTI/Bucholtz/OSR/PRV Alarm & Trip Operations

6) Metering Consists of 0.5 class accuracy multifunction meter with suitable CT ratio of 0.5 class
accuracy.
7) Annunciation & Hooter for Alarm operations.
8) Incoming & outgoing section of user RMU will be having 3 Core X 95 sq mm (E) armoured cable
with bottom entry.
9) HT cable from input of User RMU to Transformer input will be directly laid in ground as per
methodology written in IS 8061.
