Teaching Dates & Time October 9, DAY:
2023 (12:30-6:30 PM)
________________ Quarter 1st

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of the relationship among the
locations of volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and mountain ranges.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to:
1. demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes,
tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions; and
2. suggest ways by which he/she can contribute to government efforts in
reducing damage due to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
Learners will be able to:
C. Learning Competencies/ 1. describe the possible causes of plate movement (S10ES-Ia-j-36.5); and
Objectives 2. cite evidence of Wegener’s Continental Drift Theory.

UNIT: EARTH AND SPACE

II. CONTENT
MODULE: Plate Tectonics
TOPIC: Continental Drift Theory – Day 1

IV. PROCEDURES Materials

A. ELICIT Strategy: PICTURE ANALYSIS
DIRECTION: Analyze the figure below, then answer the PowerPoint
Guide Questions: questions. Presentation
1. What can you say about the thickness
of the sediments near the ridge?
2. Before Q1, what can you say about the
density of rocks near the ridge?
3. What can you say about the thickness
of the sediments far from the ridge?
4. Prior to Q4, what can you say about the
density of rocks far from the ridge?

B. ENGAGE Strategy: SCIENTIST WHO?

DIRECTION: Identify the scientist behind the boxes. To PowerPoint
remove each box, you need to answer the questions for each Presentation
box. The answer for each question begins with the letter
found on each box.
.

Alfred Wegener

C. EXPLORE Strategy: RECONSTRUCTING PANGAEA

DIRECTION: The students are to perform the activity. PowerPoint
Procedure: Presentation
1. Cut each continent from the map. Make
sure to cut from the edges of each
continent.
2. After cutting each continent, assemble
them into one huge continent. The huge
continent should be comprised of all 7
continents that you cut.
3. Overlapping of the glued continents is
not allowed.

D. EXPLAIN Strategy: GUIDE QUESTIONS

DIRECTION: The students will answer the following guide
questions.
1. Which among the continents fit almost perfectly? PowerPoint
2. What helps you to determine which continent to attach Presentation
with another continent?

E. ELABORATE Strategy: THE MOVING CONTINENTS

DIRECTION: Analyze the diagram and answer the questions
Guide Questions: that follow. PowerPoint
1. What can you infer from the continuous Presentation
movement of continents as shown in the
figure?
2. Which ocean do you think will be the
largest in the future if the drifting of
continents does not stop?
3. Is it possible that millions of years from
now the Earth’s continents will form a
supercontinent again? Explain your
answer.
F. EVALUATE Strategy: FILL IN THE BLANKS
DIRECTION: Fill in the blanks to complete the paragraph PowerPoint
below. Presentation
The seven continents that we have today were once
joined 300 million to 200 million years ago to form a
supercontinent called (1) ________________. This
supercontinent was surrounded by a single ocean (2)
________________. This idea was proposed by (3)
________________. In his (4) ________________ he
explained that continents were drifting away from each
other.

G. EXTEND Strategy: ASSIGNMENT

DIRECTION: Using the internet or other science source PowerPoint
material, search for the evidences that support the Presentation
Continental Drift Theory.
