EDUCATION INDONESIA FACTS (2022) :


Population: 272 millions; Compulsory Education : 9 years;
Type of Curriculum : Competency Based Curriculum (since 2004).
Primary school : 150.400 schools, 25,5 milion students; 1,4 million teachers
Junior Secondary school: 37.100 school, 10,1 million student ; 628.000 teachers
Senior Secondary school: 13.200 school, 4,7 millions students; 307. 000 teachers
Vocational school : 13.600 schools; 4,9 millions student; 292.212 teachers
High Institution/Univ: 99 public, 3.100 Private Universities with 2,3 students.

❑Currently, Indonesia's Ministry of
Education, Culture Research and
Technology is conducting a programme
called the Freedom to Learn -
Independent Campus (MBKM) into the
country's education system.
❑In Primary and Secondary Education,
BACKGROUNDS the new Curriculum is called :
MERDEKA CURRICULUM.
❑The MBKM policies emphasize on
independent learning. Students will be
given the freedom to develop their
talents and abilities without being
hindered by formal rules which may

❑Indonesia is a big country with
seventeen thousands of islands,
hundreds of ethnics, hundreds of local
languages, diverse of culture variety,
and diverse of religions.
❑Multiculture education is one tools of
education system in order to provide
BACKGROUNDS diverse communities among etnics in
Indonesia.
❑This presentation discuss how
multiculture pedagogy is planned and
implemented in Preservice Teacher
Education Curriculum in Indonesia.

(Permenristekdikti No 55/2017)

Professional Teacher Education Program (TPE)


is educational program after academic under
graduate program (S1) or applied graduate (D-
4) to hold teacher certificate for teaching in
Kindergarten formal education, primary
education and secondary education.

TEACHER PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
IN INDONESIA

❑TPE program is implemented and run by selected Teacher


education Institutions (TEIs) which is managed directly by the
Minister of Research, Technology and Higher education.
❑ In UPI, TPE is as a Study Program that managed by Sekolah
Pascasarjana UPI.
❑ Currently, there are 78 state and private Teacher education
Institutions (TEIs) spread throughout the nation assigned to
establish TPE program.

competencies and life skills (Soft skills);
❑ Indonesia is a multicultural society that
includes a wide variety of different cultural
perspectives, regarding of values, local
languages, tribes, religions, and etnics.

FINAL NOTES (1)
❑Indonesia, as a multi culture nation, has already
planned and implemented, multiculture approach
on Curriculum preservice teacher education
program. However, The program need some
innovative strategies..
❑It is found that multi culture perspective shall be
infused on Preservice Teacher Education
Curriculum. So far, it shows discrepancies between
concept and policy and actualization of learning
process in school. It is centered on national
citizenship rather than global multiculture.
❑On the MBKM curriculum, it seems that it shall be
focused on reinforcing students competencies
rather than competitiveness.

❑The approach of multi culture shall be moved
beyond knowledge based to lead bring change of
positive behavior on national and global issues.
❑ It is important to spread students interest of
multiculture of their own, then spread to regional,
national , and global perspective.
❑In new National Curriculum, the spirit of
multiculture can be cultivated in teaching learning
activities in intra curricular, co curricular, extra
curricular as well as on Project for empowering
Profil Pelajar Pancasila.
