Information Centers
Project access and security privileges are determined by a combination of Responsible Manager/OBS assignment(s), Project
Security profile assignment(s) and where the assignments fall within the EPS structure. Information Center: Primavera
P6 EPPM And P6 PPM (Cloud
and On Premise) [1353831.2]
The following three key points are always applied when Primavera determines how Users gain access to which projects and what
security privileges are applied. These principals apply to Project Management and P6 Web Access.

• Although the OBS is a hierarchical structure which allows for granting access to EPS Nodes, Projects, and Document References
WBS elements, assigning the root OBS element to a user does NOT also grant access to elements managed Unable to Set OBS /

How to Configure User Access

User markm is assigned Project Access only to the "CEO" Responsible Manager which is responsible in P6 [Video] [1462852.1]
for South projects. "CEO" appears at the top of the OBS hierarchy and "CEO" has a child OBS
element named "SUPPORT REP" which is assigned to North and Northeast projects.

• Granting access to an EPS node provides access to all lower nodes and projects. Access flows down from Unique [2857149.1]
the node through projects to the lowest EPS sub-node. Think of this type of access as the "umbrella factor."

EXAMPLE:

User markm is granted Project Access only to the "SUPPORT REP" Responsible Manager which is
assigned to North and Northeast projects. "CEO" is assigned to South projects.

User markm will be granted access to North projects, Northeast projects AND South projects. Because

"Support Rep" is assigned at the root of the EPS, markm gains access to South projects even though
the projects are assigned to a different Responsible Manager.

• Less restrictive security profiles, e.g. Project Superuser assigned at the higher node override more
restrictive profiles, e.g View Data assigned at lower nodes.

EXAMPLE 1:

User markm is granted a Project Superuser security profile to the "SUPPORT REP" Responsible
Manager which is assigned to North and Northeast projects. "User markm is granted the View Project
Data Project security profile to the "CEO" Responsible Manager which is assigned to South projects.

User markm will be granted to North and Northeast projects and will ALSO be granted access to
South projects because the South project access privileges are the sum of View Project Data and
Project Superuser. In other words, the security profile that is applied to a specific element is the sum
of the privileges assigned specifically to the element and of all security privileges assigned to nodes
above it. markm would have full edit rights to North, Northeast and South projects.

EXAMPLE 2:

User markm is granted a View Project Data Project security profile to the "SUPPORT REP" Responsible
Manager. User markm is granted a Project security profile to the "CEO" Responsible Manager.

markm will be granted View Project Data access to North and Northeast projects and be granted (full
edit) access to the South project.

NOTE: OBS hierarchy is not a functional hierarchy, access is not passed from parent OBS object to its children OBS objects.

Unable To Set OBS / Responsible Manager. Assign OBS Button Greyed Out. (Doc ID 1473047.1)
