3. A manufacture has three machine I , II , III installed in his factory. Machines I and II are capable of
being operated for at most 12 hours where machines III must be operated for at least 5 hours. She
produces only items M and N each requiring the use of all the three machines. The number of hours
required for producing 1 unit of each M and N on the three machines in the following table:

She makes a profit of TSHS 600 and TSHS 400 on items N and M respectively. How many of each
item should she produce so as to maximize her profit assuming that she can cell all the items that she
produced? What will be the maximum profit?

4. (a) The mean and the mode of the numbers a, a, 3, b, b + 1, b + 2, 5, are 5 and 6 respectively.

(i) determine the values of a and b.

(ii) calculate the median of the numbers

(b) Compute the semi-interquartile range of the data represented by the table below.

(c) The mean and standard deviation of group of 100 observation were found to be 20 and 3 respec-
tively. Later on it was found that three observation were incorrect which are recorded as 21, 21
and 18 . Find the mean and standard deviation if the incorrect observation were omitted.

5. (a) (i) By shading method, show that (A ∪ B)0 ∩ (A ∩ B) = φ

(ii) Given that A = {x ∈ R; 0 ≤ x ≤ 3}, B = {x ∈ R; 1 ≤ x ≤ 4} and C = {x ∈ R; x > 3}


By using number line, find the expressions of the sets: (A0 ∪ B 0 ) ∩ C and A0 ∩ B ∩ C

(b) Simplify the following expressions by using algebraic laws on sets;

(c) In a class of Serengeti secondary school, every student offered at least one of the following
subjects: Economics, Geography or Mathematics. 15 students offered Economics, 20 students
offered Geography and 21 students offered Mathematics, out of those 10 students offered both
Geography and Mathematics. 9 students offered both Economics and Geography, 8 students
offered Mathematics and Economics and only 4 students offered all the 3 subjects.

(i) How many students are there in class?

(ii) How many students offered mathematics but not Geography?

(iii) How many students were offering at most two subjects?

6. (a) (i) The functions f and g are defined by f (x) = x2 + 3 for x > 0, g(x) = 2x + 1 for x > 2

(ii) Draw the graph of f (x) = 2x for −3 ≤ x ≤ 3 and explain how can you obtain graph of
