HISTORY OF AVIATION

• Dream of flight-since time immemorial.


• 300BC ;King Rawan-Dadu Monara.
• First powered flight in 1903.
• World war 1 saw the first extensive use of the aircraft.
• The initial use war for reconnaissance.
• World wars stressed the effective employment of aircraft.
HISTORY OF SRI LANKA AIR FORCE
• At inception,The RCyAF owned no aircraft.
• The Chipmunk was orderd in 1950.
• The first batch of four aircraft arrived in Ceylon in October the same
year
• Hence forth,aircraft were acquired to the inventory to meet the
prevailing national interest.
• Gp Capt G.C Bladon was the first commander.
• Air Cdre G.C. Amarasekara was the first Ceylonese commander of the
RCyAF.
• The Royal Ceylon Air Force changed to the Sri lnka Air Force in 1972.
