Chemistry assignment

1. Explain in terms of collision theory, the effect of an

increase in temperature on reaction rate
2. Sketch an energy profile diagram to show the effect of
catalyst on the reaction rate, given that the reaction is
endothermic
3. Consider the reaction W X+Y H=-XkJ.
Sketch the energy profile diagram for the reaction represented
above.
4. On what principle is collision theory based for a chemical
reaction to occur.
5. State two conditions that can lead to ineffective collisions
during a chemical reaction.

Physics assignment
1. (a) What is momentum?
(b) Why is it important that a folder that a defender in
football should have a lot of mass

through a height of 4m. (g=10m/s2)
5. List five types of thermometers and their thermometric
substances.
ANS
1)b)Strength and Physicality:
Muscle mass contributes to a player’s strength and physical presence on the
field.
Defenders need to hold their ground against opponents, especially
during tackles and challenges.
A defender with more mass can better withstand physical pressure from
opposing players, preventing them from being easily pushed around.
Collision Resilience:
Football involves frequent contact collisions.
Greater muscle mass provides a layer of protection, making defenders more
resilient when they collide with other players.
It helps reduce the risk of injury during tackles, aerial duels, and other physical
interactions
Technical Ability:While defenders need strength, they also require technical
skills.A balance is essential: defenders must be technically sound to make
accurate passes, intercept balls, and contribute to the team’s build-up play.
Having muscle mass doesn’t hinder their technical abilities; instead, it
complements their overall performance.

3) a)In an isolated system (where an object is isolated from external, non-

conservative forces), the total mechanical energy remains constant. This
means that potential energy can become kinetic energy, or vice versa, but
energy cannot disappear

B)Machine:

 A machine is an apparatus that uses mechanical power and consists of

several interconnected parts, each with a specific function. Together, these
parts perform a particular task or function.
 Machines can be anything from simple tools (like a lever or pulley) to complex
devices (such as engines, computers, or vehicles).

Mechanical Advantage (MA):

 Mechanical advantage refers to the advantage gained by using a machine to

transmit force.
 Specifically, it is the ratio of the force that performs useful work (output
force) to the force applied to the machine (input force).
 In other words, MA tells us how much a machine amplifies or multiplies the
force applied to it.

Velocity Ratio (VR):

 The velocity ratio of a machine is defined as the ratio of the velocity of the
effort (the part where force is applied) to the velocity of the load (the part
where useful work is done).
 In simpler terms, it’s the ratio of the displacement of the effort to
the displacement of the load.
 For an ideal machine, the velocity ratio value is equal to the mechanical
advantage.
4)Digital Thermometer:
Thermometric Substance: Heat sensors (usually semiconductor materials).

Mercury-in-Glass Thermometer:

 Thermometric Substance: Mercury.

Thermocouple Thermometer:

 Thermometric Substance: Thermocouples use two different metals joined at

one end. The temperature difference between the junctions generates a
voltage, which is proportional to the temperature.

Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD):

 Thermometric Substance: RTDs use a platinum wire as the sensing element.

The resistance of the wire changes with temperature.

Infrared Thermometer:

 Thermometric Substance: Infrared thermometers measure temperature

without direct contact. They detect infrared radiation emitted by the object.
