ARGUMENTATION AND DEBATE

General Directions: You will be given questions, either direct questions or situational
questions, which will assess your critical thinking skills. Think hard, think deep, but don’t
forget to look at the obvious and small details. You are not supposed to look for, research, and
copy the answers to these questions online or from any other source—I will immediately
disregard them. The purpose of this activity is not to get the correct answers from you but to
see how you will reason out, how you will analyze, and how you will think about the

1. A doctor and a bus driver are both in love with the same woman, an attractive girl named
Sarah. The bus driver had to go on a long bus trip that would last a week. Before he left,
he gave Sarah seven apples. Why?

5. Professor Frink(name of a person) is convicted in Germany. He gets the death penalty.


The judge allows him to say a last sentence in order to determine the way the penalty will
be carried out. If he lies, he will be hanged, if he speaks the truth he will be beheaded.
Professor Frink speaks the last sentence and to everybody surprise some minutes later he
is set free because the judge cannot determine his penalty.
