(EC-2 Regular)

Course No. : MEL ZG510

Course Title : RF MICROELECTRONICS
Nature of Exam : Closed Book
Weightage : 30% No. of Pages =2
Duration : 2 Hours No. of Questions = 6
Date of Exam : Sunday, 08/03/2020 (AN)
Note:
1. Please follow all the Instructions to Candidates given on the cover page of the answer book.
2. All parts of a question should be answered consecutively. Each answer should start from a fresh page.
3. Assumptions made if any, should be stated clearly at the beginning of your answer.

Q.1. Determine the NF(Noise Figure) of the common-source stage shown below. Neglect the transistor
capacitances and flicker noise. [6]
[Consider the Thermal noise of RS, RD and transistor M1]

Q.2. A white noise whose psd (power spectral density) is given by S(f)=10 -12W/Hz is passed through a Band pass
filter shown below. Given fc=1MHz, Bc=100kHz.
(a) Plot the Noise psd at the output of Band pass filter
(b) Find the total noise power at the output of Band pass filter [2 + 1 = 3]

Q.3. For the circuit shown below [2 + 3 + 2 = 7]

(a) Calculate the Transfer function without the Capacitor ‘C’.
(b) Calculate the Transfer function with the Capacitor ‘C’.

Bandwidth?

Q.4. Design match filter for the following specifications [6]

Q.5. With suitable diagrams and equations, explain [2.5 + 2.5 = 5]

(a) Cross Modulation
(b) Intermodulation

Q.6. Standard FM equation is given by [1.5 + 1.5 = 3]

Given ɯc=2π*106, m=2π*103.
