MATHEMATICS 9-R
MINI TRANSFER TASK 1
Triangle Similarities

Name: Date:

Grade 9 Section: Teacher: K. Yanga/ M. Valencia/ I. Romero

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRIANGLE SIMILARITY

Part 1: One of the applications of triangle similarity is finding the height of objects that cannot be
measured directly. In your classroom, identify the height of certain areas assigned to each
member of your group.

NOTE: The unit of measurement to be used in this activity is meters.

Member 1: Ceiling
Member 2 : Beam 1 (higher)
Member 3: Beam 2 (lower)
Member 4: CCTV

GROUP #: ___
INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Use a compact mirror to locate your assigned area. This will be used as a point of reference
for the similar triangles.

2. Data gathering and solutions:

a. use the meter stick to identify the necessary measurements (please see reference
image below);
b. Draw a free body diagram on the space provided for your solutions.
c. Label/name the similar triangles formed.
d. Solve for the height of the object. Write your complete solution. Round-off your final
answer to the nearest hundredths (2 decimal places)

PART 2: Word problem on Theorems on Triangle Similarities

GIVEN:
1. __________ (your name), who is ___ meters tall, casts a shadow that extends to the end of
the flagpole's shadow. Given that you are standing parallel to the flagpole, your goal is to
find the following measurements. Use the diagram below:
1. The distance between you and the flagpole

NOTE:
Round-off your height (in meters) to the nearest hundredths (two decimal places)
Create your own label/name of the two triangles.
