I. INTRODUCTION
Banban Elementary School is one of the two big elementary schools of Bangui which
was established just after the liberations. It is located in Barangay Banban, more or less five
kilometers away from the poblacion. It has an area of 342 square meters. The lot is donated
by the Municipality of Bangui. One of the two known-pioneered teacher was Mr. Edrolfo
Lampitoc who serve as teacher in 1941. Mr. Jose Sarsuso was the first head of the school.
It started as a two-teacher primary school before the war. Because of the growing
population of the barangay and adjacent barangays such as Manayon, Dadaor, and Payac,
Grade Three was opened. The following year ushered the opening of Grade Four to make it a
complete primary school with three teachers only.In 1946, after the Second World War, the
intermediate classes were opened to make it a complete elementary school.
Later on, some pre-fabricated buildings were arriving. Luckily, Banban Elementary
School was given three units of Army Type Buildings. A few years later, a Pre-fabricated
Marcos Unit was again erected. The Army-type Buildings were constructed under a self-help
program. The PTA provided the labor as counterpart on the love of the government. During
the Marcos administration, one RP-US Bayanihan building was constructed, and the year
after another Bagong Lipunan was again constructed. To facilitate the expansion, the old
buildings were demolished and a unit of modified Bagong Lipunan was again erected. And
the latest building was constructed.
Up to this time, the school is continuously shining through the dedicated principal,
teachers, supportive parents, community and other stakeholders as well.
