Installation Steps for the Symbol DS9808 Barcode Scanner

1. Plug the standard USB cable into the DS9808 scanner and plug the USB cable into a USB Port on your PC.
2. Scan the “Simple COM Port Emulation” barcode located here:

3. Run the Simple COM Port Emulation install program on your PC. It can be found in the folder where this
document is located (on the MFG Suite install disk: \Drivers\Symbol COM Port Emulation\Symbol COM
Port Emulation Driver v 1.8.5.exe).
4. The driver should see the scanner that is plugged in and create a Virtual COM port (you can look under
Human Interface Devices in the Device Manager to see the port number).
5. Scan the following code to set the beep volume to low (the default is quite loud):

6. Set the scanner to the Data Rate by scanning the barcode here:

7. Set the Carriage Return/Line Feed for the scanner by scanning the following barcode:

8. Set the COM Port value on the Menu | Settings | Designer | Barcode Scanner page in the Manufacturing
Suite’s Application Settings to COM 3.

The install is complete. If the scanner does not work, you will need to get the Virtual COM port number, listed
under Human Interface Devices in Device Manager (in Windows: Start | Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device
Manager | Human Interface Devices | Communication Virtual Port) and set the COM port in step 7 to that value.
