The extraction of DNA or Deoxyribonucleic acid from cheek cells is a common

and straightforward procedure that holds several important implications and

applications. While conducting the experiment, I realized that the DNA can be used in

analyzing the genes. DNA extracted from cheek cells can be used for the identification

of various genetic traits, including predispositions to certain diseases, physical

characteristics, and potential responses to medications. It can be analyzed for specific

genetic variations linked to various genetic disorders. The information can be valuable

in assessing your risk for certain diseases and can contribute to early detection or

prevention efforts.

The salt and water serve to create a hypertonic solution, it aids the extraction of

cheek cell in order to get the DNA. And by adding the dishwashing liquid soap it breaks

down the cell membranes and release the DNA into the solution. The alcohol-induced

precipitation is a simple and visible way to isolate DNA. The floating material observed

is a representation of the aggregated DNA strands. This experiment provides a basic

understanding of DNA extraction principles.

Since DNA is a fundamental part of biotechnology there are several factor that

the DNA attained through cheek cell extraction can be use in biotech. It can be used for

medical diagnostics such as for Personalized Medicine and Disease Risk Assessment.

Cheek cell DNA extraction supports the concept of personalized medicine, where
medical treatments can be tailored based on an individual's genetic information, leading

to more effective and targeted interventions. It allows individuals to understand their

genetic makeup and provides insights into inherited conditions, facilitating proactive

health management.
