GEOMETRIC MEANS is the number between
two positive terms of a geometric sequence is
equal to the square root of their product.

Geometric mean is also a term that can be

inserted between two terms to form a
geometric sequence.

This means that in the geometric sequence

𝑎1 , 𝑎2 , 𝑎3 , 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑑𝑑𝑙𝑒 𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑚 𝑎2 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒
𝑔𝑒𝑜𝑚𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑐 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑎1 , 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎3

SOLUTION 1:
Let 𝑎 be the geometric mean.
𝑎 = (2)(18) = 36 = 6
SOLUTION 2:
𝑎1 = 2, 𝑎3 = 18, 𝑛 = 3 𝑇𝐴𝐾𝐸 𝑁𝑂𝑇𝐸!

You have posted an article on your account and
found that 5 people shared your post. After an
hour each post was shared by 5 people again;
this kept on repeating. How many accounts
shared the post after 4 hours?
Here is a table to illustrate the problem:
𝑇𝐼𝑀𝐸 𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑆𝐻𝐴𝑅𝐸𝑆
𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑡 1
𝐴𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 1 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟 1𝑥5 = 5
𝐴𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 2 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠 5 𝑥 5 = 25
𝐴𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 3 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠 25 𝑥 5 = 125
𝐴𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 4 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠 125 𝑥 5 = 625
𝑇𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 1 + 5 + 25 + 125 + 625 = 781
Therefore, 781 people shared the article after 4
hours.

The number of recipient forms the geometric

sequence 1, 5, 25, 125, and 625, with the common
ratio of 5
The sum of the numbers in the sequence
corresponds to the total number of recipients.
Thus, the problem can be solved using the concepts
of geometric series.

terms since the initial post counts
as the 1st term in the sequence. “
