Wireless and Mobile Communication Systems (ECEG-5303)

11/1/2023 1
DDiT,School of Electrical and Computer Engineeng.
Topic of “Wireless Communication”
Ever wondered what really happened after
• Using a cellular phone to make a call while sitting in a car?
• Using the wireless local area network at DDU?
How does signal gets from one wireless device to another, using
wireless communication?
• Challenges and mitigation actions

What communication systems and protocols are necessary to enable

this functionality?

Con’t...
• This course is mainly about:
• Cellular communication fundamentals
• Attempts to give an overview of propagation mechanisms and
challenges of wireless transmission
• It partially discusses specific wireless systems, e.g., GSM
• Mobile Radio Propagation
• Large-Scale Path-Loss
•Small-Scale Fading and Multipath
• But tries to focus more on principles, as specific technical solutions
come and go quite quickly
• Network aspect of wireless communication will not be treated
