Alkali Metals
and its properties and uses
Elements under Alkali Metals (group 1)

Lithium (Li)
Sodium(Na)
Potassium(K)
Rubidium(Rb)
Cesium(Cs)
Francium(Fr)
Properties of Alkali Metals

Alkali metals have metal-like properties such as high thermal and electrical
conductivity, lustre, ductility, and malleability. Alkali metals have many
properties and some examples are Alkali metals have one single electron in
it's outermost shell. Alkali metals are silvery, soft and not dense, They are soft
enough to be cut by a knife. Except for Hydrogen the elements in group 1 are
all Alkali metals.
Uses of Alkali Metals

Lithium is used in heat resistive ceramics and glasses.

Sodium is used as luster in metals.
Potassium maintains blood pressure and acidity levels in our body.
Rubidium is used as working fluid in vapor turbines.
Importance of Alkali Metals

Alkali metals are important because they have low ionization energy, Hence
they show metallic character. They are good conductors of electricity due to
the presence of mobile valance electrons.
