In our previous two lessons we have learned about the Bible. We have
learned that the Bible is God’s holy Word. It is God’s special revelation
regarding the glory of His character, His judgment for sin and His redemp-
tive purposes for man. God’s Word is true, authoritative, and instructive
both for salvation and sanctification. The Bible is valuable and therefore
we should value it.
One way we can value God’s Word is by obeying it. Obedience is impor-
tant for we are commanded by God that we should “be doers of the word,
and not hearers only,” otherwise, we are deceiving ourselves (James 1:22).
Not all obedience however, is glorifying to God. There are obedience that
are dishonoring to God such as: obedience to earn salvation, impartial obe-
dience, delayed obedience, obedience with murmuring, obedience by hu-
man power, obedience without love, and obedience to please man and not
God. Thus, this lesson focuses not merely on obedience but on a God-
glorifying kind of obedience.
Let us learn in this lesson the necessity and the nature of a God-glorifying
obedience.
I. THE NECESSITY OF A GOD-GLORIFYING OBEDIENCE
