Business/Materials Lesson Objectives


 Topic: The Last Leaf At the end of the lesson, students are able
by O. Henry to do the following with 75% level of

can apply it to everyday living.
Warm-up and Objective Discussion
 Ask students if any of them know O. Henry. If so, shortly share their
knowledge. What do they know about the author and its works (pre-
writing).
 Explain students it is practical and important to be able to know the
author of the story they are reading since this will help them
understand the content and message of the story the author have
written and wanted to convey. Aside from that, this can also one’s
comprehension skills and will enormously broaden ones horizon.

Instruct and Model X R X W X L X S


 Explain to students that today we’re going to read and discuss a short
story written by O. Henry.
 Instruct class how to do the 3rd guided practice exercise: underline
every word of which the meaning is unknown to the student and by using
the text/context, try to figure out the meaning classically. Explain
why this is a better learning method than just looking the words up in
a dictionary.
 Ask the students to take down notes on the elements of the story they
have found while reading and take down notes of the themes the story
had.
Guided Practice X R X W  L X S
 Show student the title of the short story: “The Last Leaf.” Students
are the asked to write down words or short phrases on sticky notes
what they think could be discussed in the story and put them on the
blackboard. (10 min).
 Students were also asked to write the elements of a story the story
had.
 Students are to read the text again and mark the elements of the story
and themes. In a teacher-lead discussion they’ll try to figure out
what are those elements of the story the story had and how does these
elements contribute to the story’s theme. (15 min)

Independent Practice X R X W  L  S
 Students will summarize the story following the elements of the story
and explain how they can apply the story’s moral lesson into their
everyday living.
 (homework). Writings will be read provided feedback by fellow students
next lesson (writing + post writing)
